Day 1 of 5: Halcyon Days: 5 Minute Freewrite: Sunday - Prompt: halcyon days
Day 1 of 5.
Below is a @freewrite story that is part of a 5-day challenge too myself.
It was the tail-end of the Halcyon days, right before the disruptive weather that wasn't typical for this time of year came whipping through at speeds of 1oo mile an hour winds, followed by rain that could turn into ice and kill a man, followed by lightning and thunder storms that shook the ground. This happened every hundred years or so.
Leil Hochi watched the birds from out the window. They were particularly brutal during mating season and he could always tell which bird would go up against the more experience to challenge for the mating position. The thrill of waiting to see who came out on top still surprised him at times. They never quibbled over the deaths.
The planet, Ebichi, seemed to rock with the waves crashing against the shore, the calmest it will be for months to follow.
The Vice Roy tapped his finger on the chair's bar, his ideological ideas not playing out as expected and he's about to lose half of what he built because he failed to listen to his council.
His niece entered the room, a book under her arm read Kybalion. Another storm was brewing, although she couldn't see it yet as she was wrapped up in the old ways her uncle used to treat her. She forgave his cruel remarks, suppressing each lashing that struck her soul with a new intensity.

Finish the Story Contest - The contest begins on Wednesday (usually) and ends 5 days later. This contest will test your write skills with something a little different each week. Plenty of time to write something around the 500 word mark.
Steem Monsters Common Card Fantasy Story Contest! - Coming out roughly every week. If you enjoy card games like Magic, Yugio, and others like it, you might like this game. Write a fictional tale about the card they present in the contest and your entry just might be the one they choose to showcase.
Tell A Story To Me, And Win 5 SBD! Writing Contest - Kind of random when it comes out but don't worry. You will have two weeks to complete your work of art from the given prompt. Have fun!
Haiku - These are coming out every couple days or so. If you struggle with rhymes, no worries. Haikus don't have to rhyme. All you need to make a haiku is five syllables on the first, seven syllables in the second line, and again back to five syllables for the last line. So easy it makes me think I'm being super productive. LOL
Mizu No Oto - Every Image Has Its Haiku Contest - By reading the title, you should be able to guess how this haiku contest works. You're given an image and you write. I've really enjoyed this contest because there are people here who've actually gone to classes to learn how to write haiku's; so if you want, you also can learn how to write quality haikus from reading the comments and critiques they and others give.
Micro-Fiction Writing Contest - This is a fun challenge. You get two-hundred and fifty words to tell a story or vignettes. Here is a great post that will explain the difference between the two concepts. Here is another post explanation of what a story is. Good luck, Brave Story Writer!
Vocab-Ability 1x1 - What happens is you are given a list of roots and the words they can be found in. You create a sentence using those words and post in the comment section of the post. Your upvote for your creative work will come soon. One of the best ways to increase your vocabulary is by doing these 10-15 minute exercises almost daily. What craziness will you create?

What does: "she was wrapped in the old ways her uncle..." means
Posted using Partiko Android
My thought behind that is he used to be a good person and then something happened. For some reason he now takes his pain out on her a little at a time, getting worse as time goes on. At times, we don't want to see people as they truly are but how we remember them. It can be a very painful experience.
Of course, this is a freewrite and not much editing was done. It may work later on or it may not as this story continues to develop day by day.
Thanks for explaining, it makes sense.

Reading that again, it was a mistake. I meant her father. Possibly uncle will work better. hmm...
Well you can change it. Quess the uncle works better.
