Day 1: Time | Day 2: Global | Day 3: room service||

Below is day 4 combined with day 1, 2, and 3. The prompt is: inbox

  • the extra prompt was: Hook me up with some cash and another episode

If you leave a prompt, a single word, phrase, or picture, and make it clear that it is a prompt, I will make sure to include it in the next day of this challenge.

He looked at the clock as it's ticks and tocks seemed to carry on for an eternity. The time showed a few minutes past twelve. He shifted his weight back and forth, his stick holding up his upper body.

The picture on the wall of the desert caught his attention when it reflected light from a door being opened. There, in the painted sand, was a scorpion defending itself against a creature twice its size. He felt he was going to have to bust some heads, his stick being the tail of a scorpion.

A fly buzzed about the room, landing on the wall next to the clock. The time showed fifteen minutes passed and the bookie was not there with his money.

"Damn, my nagga," said Magezi from behind, his voice hoarse, "did you know that the global suicide rate is one in 5,000 - 15,000 people?" He stopped when he reached the table's edge. The table's felt was patched with duck tape, the leather pockets were ripped, and the dead bumpers had beers stains on them that bled into the table center creating the image of a masked man.

"He'll be here," said the contractor as he gripped his stick tighter, ready to swing at the closest head and ready to run.

"My nigga, I know that, but just in case..." he paused as he pulled up his pants, the belt he wore wasn't tight enough for keeping them from falling below his but cheeks. "You have the papers in your possession to sign over your company. No worries, dog. We know you've got our backs and wouldn't duck out on us, Charlie."

Charlie looked back at the clock, the fly on the clock's arm stood out like a sore thumb and seemed to cry out - It is now twenty-five minutes past twelve.

The stench of dirty socks filled his nose as one of the men, a three-hundred and fifty-pound fat dude with muscle underneath, moved closer to him. He didn't move out of fear that it would trigger a response he wasn't quite ready to take action on.

Magezi's phone rang. He takes it from his pocket and answers. "Woman, whatcha want? ... No. You don't say. What blood clot room service maid would be dumb enough to pee in the trash can in your room? ... What did you do to that blood clot? ... Excellent." A smile crossed his face, reaching from ear to ear. "I knew my girl could take out the trash properly. Now I go, woman. I've got business to take care of here. Nigga got me waiting on my money."

The fly's buzzing caught the ears of the contract as it circled around his head and then took off across the room where it landed on the table's side. Magezi moved his hand slowly in one speed toward the fly. Once his hand was in the range of the fly, he smacked the side of the table with lightning speed, killing the fly.

"That is what is going to happen to a nigga without my money," said Magezi exaggerating the last word. He wiped the fly's juices from his hand with a shirt given to him by one of his men.

The contractor gulped. He felt the sweat building up from gripping the stick so tightly.

"Hook me up with some cash and another episode," Magazi sang out, as his hands waved in the air while making his butt jiggle up and down.

Charlie stood silent afraid that if he spoke it would be his lost word. Magazi was taking note and enjoying Charlie's reaction.

The contractor's phone vibrated. He looked at it. There was a message in the inbox. It read: "Sorry, buddy. You'll have to hand over your business. Too many people won today and I had to pay up." For a microsecond, Charlie's face showed anger before he quickly forced a smile.

  • Micro-Fiction Writing Contest - This is a fun challenge. You get two-hundred and fifty words to tell a story or vignettes. Here is a great post that will explain the difference between the two concepts. Here is another post explanation of what a story is. Good luck, Brave Story Writer!
