Chapter 12
When the shaking stopped – when Tom had drained the entirety of the ore in that mine – only the fearful shouting of the civilians and workers remained as they were running in all directions like headless chickens.
Despite all that was going on, James didn't move his sight off the black dot in the air. It went flying farther away from him, though, and at some point he lost vision of it.
It wasn't long after that the ground began shaking again, only far more violent than before. James, like all others, started running somewhere into the open as the buildings all came collapsing in on themselves. At last, he made it to the town’s gates and noticed a group of people crying over their lost possessions and shaking from adrenaline as if they had way too much coffee. What was once a town was now nothing but ruins.
Looking into the sky, James could see the shining liquid flying through the air into one specific direction – the direction Tom flew off to. He must’ve gathered enough power and was strong enough to fly to the center of what was once a dome and gather the cryosatane from all around. The view was frightening. With an occasional rock flying along with the glowing liquid it resembled a meteor shower and presented real danger to everyone not under cover – and due to the earthquake those under cover too.
The people James was with all thought the world was coming to an end. They were certain they wouldn’t live to see another day, let alone the next hour. They didn’t know whether they were under attack – the flying rocks resembled the projectiles of trebuchets – or whether they were victim of some God’s rage.
Nobody knew how to pray to a god, they only knew how to pray to their King. They dropped down to their knees and asked their King for guidance and protection, but to no avail. Their King, Kirk, couldn’t help them even if he was alive.
James felt sorry for the group, but knew he needed to move away from them. His son was surely going to meet him after he was done extracting the Cryosatane, and their meeting was best kept private.
