Chapter 11
When they approached the gates and they saw the interior it was like it was a different state – a different world, even. The road leading inside was clear of all off-white stones and there was no litter on the ground. Inside, as far as the eye could see, ornaments, finely polished to shine in the scorching sun, and meticulously designed window shutters in all colors one could imagine, all in line with the color of the building they were on.
They held back their excitement as they approached the two guards in front of the gate. All three were on foot with James holding the horse by its bridle. They saluted at one another, and the group of three was allowed inside without having spoken a single word.
“This is it, huh?” Gordon said about 50 feet away from the gates, visibly nervous – his hands shaking. “This way.” He led the way into a side street to their right. Tom and James followed suit and shook their heads when they caught each other’s look, disapproving of Gordon’s uneasiness.
They walked, speechless, for about 5 minutes, when Gordon all of a sudden stopped just before one of the narrow streets they were passing through would end.
