Chapter 11
Tom and James walked out the street with their heads held high – they acted like they belonged. The bank was situated, as Gordon said, about 500 feet away from them and because the street was wide and straight, they could see the guard standing there just by taking the corner.
They then set off to check the surroundings of the palace itself, making a circle around it first a 150 feet range, then in a 300 feet range to the palace. The streets were empty of guards just as they were told by Gordon, and so they just studied their surroundings to find any potential safe – or dangerous – spots.
Knowing the clock was nearing 5 p.m. they stopped behind the palace and discussed their next move.
“You think Gordon will sell us out?” Tom asked a bit hesitantly. He still wasn’t sure whether or not James really trusted him or just pretended to.
“No more than we are him.” James laughed. “Look, there’s three guards on our side, three more on each of the other two sides and four in the front. We take out these three, plus two extra from each side when they come running toward the gunfire like headless chicken. By that time I believe it’s safe to presume Gordon will start shooting too, and shoot two of them before he gets killed himself. The remaining guards will hold their ground and be more cautious. That’s why right after we kill as many of them as we safely can, we run toward the street to the bank and get rid of that one guard that’ll also come running. That leaves us with four to five guards still alive. Two on one side of the palace, two to three on the other, and that’s a walk in the park.”
