Chapter 11
James picked up the jar of Cryosatane from the floor, and the two then walked up to the stairs and emptied the guard’s pockets of all ammo that they were carrying. They also picked up their pistols and reloaded them – both of them then carried two revolvers with 6 rounds each.
They were in no hurry whatsoever. They took a few steps backwards and stopped in front of the palace to get a good view of it. It was about five stories high and though its base was a square and there was no tower, it somewhat looked like a copy of some baroque catholic church with its stained glass windows and highly ornate and extravagant design.
Looking at the palace, they both slapped their pockets at the same time in the search of cigarettes – left side pockets first, then the right side pockets. They both disappointedly sighed when they realized they had none with them. No one under the dome appeared to smoke – at least not tobacco.
At last they decided to enter and face the King. They pulled out their guns and proceeded slowly and with caution. There could be more guards waiting for them inside, or it could be the King himself hiding behind some corner with a gun in his hand.
After the initial fifteen stairs they were met with red carpet on the floor and large double doors in front of themselves, with one more just like it on each side. The stairs continued to another floor still, so they decided to take them, thinking the King would definitely have his rooms at the topmost floor.
