Chapter 11
They continued up the first stairs and were met with a near identical arrangement on the next floor. Red carpet, same statues and ornaments, pots of the most beautiful wildflowers and three wooden double doors. The stairs went on for another two floors for a total of four, all identical to one another. Having reached the top floor, there was nowhere else they could go but back to where they came from or through one of the doors.
They looked at each other, as if maybe the other one had come up with an idea of some sort, then smiled.
“So, any favorites?” Tom hovered his hand through the air from left to right.
“Right through the middle. Let’s make a grand entrance.” They both smiled, nodded, and approached the carefully carved wooden doors.
They looked at each other one final time before Tom forcefully pulled on the handle and James jumped through the door with his revolver held high, awaiting the worst.
Instead of shooting, however, he somewhat lowered his gun and let out a silent “wow”.
When Tom appeared from behind the door he was at first surprised to see James as relaxed as he was, but when he approached him, he lowered his gun and let out a silent “wow” too.
