Wild West - Chapter 12 - Part 3 - 5 minute freewrite challenge

A drawing of the the dome, largely filled with holes, indicating it was falling apart. Realizing what it meant, Tom hastily turned the paper to look at the next one. The next drawing was much the same, only the holes were much bigger. The third had the dome gone altogether.

The two looked at each other. They knew exactly what the drawings meant – the dome disappeared when Fishnick died.

After staring at each other for several seconds Tom chuckled. “Well, there’s your answer.”

James still wasn’t convinced. “But wouldn’t the others know about this?”

“My best guess is they just took the dome for granted. Remember, they didn’t even know Fishnick was dead.”

“Yeah, but…” James shook his head. It was hard for him to believe, but in the end he admitted defeat. “I got nothing.”

Tom looked back at the drawings and turned another page. It was Kirk, dressed like guard with a crown instead of the guard hat, and looking like an Eagle Scout. The next drawing depicted Kirk commanding large groups of men – the masses were portrayed only as dots in the distance, listening to their leader.

The next drawing showed a peasant who displayed a glowing rock to Kirk. The ore. Turning the page, Kirk examined the ore carefully, and the next couple drawings showed countless laboratories and scientists.

At last – judging by the movement of the masses to the mine – Kirk commanded the majority of the population to mine. It appeared that the scientists told Kirk the ore possessed a higher power, and was thus highly valuable. When they obtained more of the ore, they figured out how to extract its power and thus the next drawing showed one of the giant metal melting pots used for extracting Cryosatane. The next couple of drawings depicted scientists conducting experiments with the Cryosatane with Kirk carefully monitoring their work.

Tom picked up the drawing in hopes to reveal the next one and realized it was the last one.

“Wait,” tom had a sudden realization. “If Kirk was presented with the ore by a peasant and didn’t know what it meant. He had to gather a group of scientists to find out for him. Do you know what that implies?”

By then James got it as well, and his lights shone bright. “Kirk isn’t related to any of the deities! That’s why he died when he drank Cryosatane! He’s a normal human. He can’t handle the power.”
