Chapter 11
The two were completely bedazzled by the city as they were slowly approaching its wall. Still far enough from the entrance and everyone’s sight the guard offered Tom his hand and introduced himself.
“I’m Gordon, by the way. Pleased to meet you.” He shook hands with Tom first and James second.
“So, Gordon, how do we get in without it looking odd? They’re used to you coming alone, no?” James asked, still walking toward the city gate.
“You’re dressed as guards. There’s many of us passing through each day, so it shouldn’t be a problem. If they ask we just met along the way from the melt. Easy.”
“We stay together until Kirk’s palace, then we go our separate way to make it behind the building. When you hear shooting, you shoot to kill.” James wasn’t asking Gordon whether he agreed or not – he was giving out orders.
Gordon nodded to James’ commands and they continued their way to the gate. The wall was impeccable. Perfect. Not one hole in the structure, not a single chip on the ground. They were used to cities with their walls worn out and visible signs of wear and tear, but that wall was flawless – more for decoration than protection.
