Part 5

“And the research, what’s it about?”

The guard laughed. “I don’t know. I never asked. I’m no scientist. I do my job, get paid, and that’s it. I know what I must to do my job.”

Tom then took a different approach to try and get some information out of the guard. “Have you always worked this job?”

“Delivered Cryosatane? No. I started out by just standing near the ore train when it arrived to make sure the workers stayed in line. Then I got promoted to look after the Cryosatane, and then finally to deliver it.”

“And yet at no point you wondered what it’s used for?”

The guard shook his head no. “Never needed to know.”

Tom saw then that he was beating a dead horse and let go. They walked in silence from then on until they saw the city in front of them.

The buildings were completely different to what Tom and James were used to, both outside and under the dome. They were made of stone – some of regular stone blocks, but most of finely cut marble – and were all very ornate. No window was left undecorated – or door, or even roof for that matter. Everything was accessorized to the point it all looked like trumpery to the two modest gunslingers.

Hope to one day writes like you.

There's no need beating the guard when he knows nothing, many guards are like that, they are using the life to pay for the security of something they don't know.

melts down into a rainbow coloured puddle.
Thank you. This means a great deal to me! <3

Especially no need to beat him if he can be of use later on ;D
