Chapter 10
The guards on the left side of them were talking to each other, facing the other way, and not paying attention at all. James therefore only needed to wait for the guard on their right to start his circle walk anew to give a signal to Tom. He saw the guard stop, mumble something to himself, then turn around and start walking the other way. James then quickly reached out with his hand and tapped Tom on his shoulder like mad and in a matter of milliseconds they were both out from under the train and mixed between the workers. The workers didn’t even bother looking at them. They had a job that needed be done, and likely a deadline to meet.
They ran toward the building and in through the entrance along with the men with the wheelbarrows and were greeted by a sight they could never have imagined, not even in their wildest dreams. The building had no windows or interior lighting – it was illuminated in full by the ore and occasional chunks of lit Lyterite in its darker areas. They watched the trail of wheelbarrows that led up a ramp and finally to one of giant metal melting pots into which they dumped the ore. Quadrillions upon quadrillions of little glowing blue rocks, all dumped into the giant iron vessel, ready to be heated up and melted down.
