"Two of you today, huh?" The guard inquired.
"Yeah," James had to come up with something real fast. Judging by the horse and how he instantly looked at the essence jar first James concluded that person had to be the one collecting the essence from the melting plant and delivering it to the next link in the chain. "We had some trouble with one of the workers and wanted to make sure it's safe."
"Really?" He stroked his moustache. "That's unusual. What happened?" It was evident he was bored to tears with his every day chores and just wanted to chat a little.
"He jumped Earl and tried smashing his head in with a chunk of ore and he somehow managed to shoot the bastard. No idea what he was trying to accomplish there." James quickly made up a story to go along with what he said earlier. The guard seemed interested, so he threw more candy his way, all while slowly making his way closer to him. "Earl's fine by the way, just a bit in shock. He might look tough, but he's quite the delicate soul." James smiled a fake smile at the end to try and make the story appear more pristine.
"Huh." The guard chuckled to himself. James and Tom both thought they were already in the clear when all of a sudden the guard spoke up again, this time louder and in a more serious, detective-like voice that caused James to stop in his tracks. "And where's Bill?"
