Steemit Open Mic is not about winning or losing, it's about building a connection on Steemit through music. Watching the collaboration happen online between musicians who played and met on Steemit Open Mic is very rewarding and many of the people who play and post earn some nice rewards for playing a song.
For many, it's easier to get some Steem in your tip jar by playing for Steemit Open Mic than it is to play music on the street.

Instant classic. I laughed so hard. Thank you for this amazing song. It definitely is something I can relate to and the energy and overall harmonic performance was stellar. This one is for the memories and for all the countless hours of sleep I lose to seek out the best musicians in our Open Mic Contest. I have yet to miss judging any contest week now and I know the pivotal role we all play in keeping this community strong and your entry set the bar high to keep everyone on their toes. I consider myself a tough judge and I found that this week was pretty easy to pick my winners list, scary right? lol and what better way to appease a judge than to write a song they can relate to? As most regular entrants know, I highly favor original entries over covers, but when such a talented and skilled singer and player as yourself can bring new life to a classic song and perform it flawlessly, then it deserves praise and recognition over other karaoke styled entries of the same song. One thing about creativity is, someone can take a cover song and still make it their own with their style, approach and tonality and you completely achieve this and raised the standards for everyone else. Simply, Wow! Out of nowhere - at the 11th hour of week #62 surfaces someone rather new to Steemit - not to mention Open-Mic - and she miraculously appeared to me as a gift from heaven! Her name is Gretchen. Not only does she deliver an astounding vocal performance of this Gershwin classic, but her guitar playing is equally impressive - right on thru her final chord strikes! For all of this and so much more, Gretchen has captured my heart and top spot here in week #62. -- @passion-ground

This was another great original that showcased your smooth singing style. This creative entry had so many interwoven and varying parts rhythmically and melodically. That shows your level of innovative songwriting using an ever constant changing of notes and keys to your advantage, especially in a time pressured song writing contest. Some artists may find one good melody and ride it out to the very end in a repetitive manner without much risk taking, but your high note falsetto sections to your intriguing choruses paid off. I was tuned in and enjoyed your song the entire time and this was not in the least boring at all. You are very talented in what you do, please keep original music alive!
