On Advertising - Part 4

In this series so far we've covered the basics of manipulating opinions, adopting beliefs and consequently controlling thoughts of the population. Let's continue a bit further and start with a hypothetical example. It deliberately might sound ludicrous but it's exactly why I've chosen it.

Let's say there is a product to be sold. Huh, that's not so hypothetical, right? :D Well, let's say the product is multicoloured panties nobody wants to buy. The best way to go about it is creating a trend. So, let's hypothetically first pay some money to a few trendsetters who will start wearing them. But, we want people to wear those panties on their foreheads for everyone to see and, while wearing them, emit good, positive, funny, entertaining vibes about how great that is.

Imagine that.

Now, why wouldn't we pay some more money to a wider bunch of hypothetical opinion makers who will write about the trend and persuade masses to go for it? They'll subtly persuade them it is really cool, great and trendy to wear our multicoloured panties on tops of their foreheads.

The word is out. Let's reinforce the emotion with billboards, ads, commercials. Let's pay a few highfalutin actors to confirm the message with a celebrity vibe. This will fortify the brand. We have enough money already, people are buying like crazy. Let's include a few fake reports about crazy events that are happening spontaneously all over the country. (Of course, we'll pay and organize those.) Let's make sure everyone knows how people love to be crazy about wearing our panties. For that purpose, we'll interview a few common people who are already influenced enough to be ecstatically happy appearing on TV. Even after all that, there is still another bunch of things we can still do to make people stupid enough to live the brand, identify with it, go crazy about it and bring many more souls to our vicious circle.

We have created a trend and the sales of our product are skyrocketing by now. Is it moral? Good for the people? I think nobody asks those questions when confronted with a river of flowing cash. This is one of the main problems of the consumer's society.

People are wearing our special forehead panties. Communities are built around it, songs are sung about them, soon it becomes inappropriate to leave the house without the new trendy piece of garment that we have blessed the world with. We use media to repeat over and over again how great we are for liberating the world that had no clue what 'important' means before our panties saw the light of the day. We now have power, fame, riches and whatever else comes along.

From this silly but quite plausible scenario hope you understand that given enough resources and time, people can be persuaded into believing whatever stupid thing they want them to. For different groups, one would need to choose different incentives but the principle remains. One needs to target his audience, right? :D

The same principles that corporations use to sell their products apply to politics, armies and religions. These groups are by far the grandest influencers of the entire world's population, even though you thought it was your favourite youtuber. Do you know why it is so? Because over the long centuries we are already brainwashed enough to believe that what is happening, is exactly what is supposed to be happening.

This is how our civilization treats people. What are your thiughts?

Thank you for following "On Advertising" series of articles. We hope you enjoyed them and learned a thing or two. If not, then we hope they at least remind you of something you already knew deep down and can use it as food for thought.

There really seems to be a deeply psychological aspect to advertising that can be very useful in selling a good product, but the same for a product that can be detrimental to peoples lives or our planet. I come from a family of artists and advertisement. So I feel like part of that learning how to connect to audiences is such a valuable tool in every aspect of our lives.

I also compose music for commercials, film, TV, and games. Manipulation is the #1 priority. Albeit most of the work I do isn't detrimental to our existence, there's a moral boundary I feel that advertising breaks sometimes. Like you mentioned.

given enough resources and time, people can be persuaded into believing whatever stupid thing they want them to.

You made a great example of product which in normal circumstances wouldn’t be worthy a dime. I could go as far as people reading this article with their eyes wide opened could realize how many times they actually got fooled. How many unnecessary and silly things they bought in their past they wouldn’t normally buy including me. Look at the CocaCola or similar drinks, in fact it’s very harmful to human’s health. Just poor a bit of coke on your car’s hood and watch what happens. But the way the company persuaded people makes people feel they actualy get harmed if they don’t have it, if they don’t drink it.
Great and an eye 👁 opening series @adsactly!

Advertising is a great tool for manipulating human consciousness and making money. What yesterday seemed to us absurd (following the example of wearing panties on my head) tomorrow, this can become the norm. Fashion is something that we can easily impose. If earlier it was difficult to do, now in the days of digital progress and the development of virtual space, it became very easy. The main thing is to put information in the people's head. Many people, alas, like to watch the life of other people ... the so-called - the stars. They see in these people rich, successful, talented people who have achieved glory. Therefore, the masses listen to them and try to copy their style. Including clothes. Therefore, if you go to get someone to buy and wear a certain thing (even the most absurd thing), then it's easier to put this thing on a famous person. And it is desirable on many.

Interesting presentation of the information and an interesting series, as always! I hope that this will allow many readers to look differently at advertising and the things that surround us. Thank you!

I have been following this series of articles closely. It's good that you do these contents so that people realize the reality.

All this stuff you've been talking about, it'll always be like this. The companies, apart from placing advertisements and publicity, will also hire famous people to use the product, so that people will also want to use it and look like its idol.

A clear example is found in the world of soccer. The sponsorship of Messi by Adidas and Cristiano Ronaldo by Nike. There are millions of followers and people who love these idols. Many young people want to be like them, and of course, wear the clothes and boots their idols wear.

The same goes for famous actors or singers. Take Justin Bieber, for example. He has his own clothing line, and a lot of people buy these clothes just to look like his favorite artist.

A greeting @adsactly. Thanks for the good content :)

You know if you wanted to brainwash people you could really do it as well (not that I am giving you the idea to), because you have the power and the resources at the disposal to do so.

Another thing why people are easily brainwashed is that majority don't care or have the time to properly investigate what the brainwasher is trying to do. They don't make the effort to see if there is truth about the type of propaganda that is being spewed because no one wants to make that effort and influential people understand this and take advantage of it.

Go! good theme @adsactly, that's what I call marketing techniques to get the most out of sales, the control of the thoughts of the population, is based on a series of combinations to achieve it without the buyer not realizing that you buy a product if not he wants to, it's outrageous but that's right ... they are persuasion techniques. Excellent, THANKS for sharing!

The concept of advertising is to show your message as many time as possible to the public in order to persuade them to fulfill a behavior desired, mostly it’s a purchase for a product but it can also be for a social movement.

When advertising first started it was in the form of print, and it was posted as flyers and in news papers. As advertising progresses to TV, it is the amount of air time the advertising shows to have the most amount of audience view.

In today’s advertising world, advertising has taken form everywhere. It is from the television we see, the social media we are on, to a certain extend, our friend’s word of mouth. In a way we are all billboards advertising a message, and through the new age technology, our voice has gotten a lot louder.

Nice post! i have some likings in advertising because one of my friends study it.
in other sell a new product that means you will have to use the marketing mix. which is the product, price, place and promotion.
the strategy is being drawn up by marketing philosophers to serve as communication to the consumer.
Because promotion is synonymous to communication.
thats my contribution.!!
await your next post.

Good advertising about adsactly market. Thanks @adsactly.
