“Are there mo-“
“No. Only the two of you,” Ducköden interrupted James. “But there were more before you. Actually, James, you are the fourth generation, and Tom the fifth. Why I chose your bloodline is a topic to be discussed another time, but for now I can tell you that you have by far outdone your ancestors. Unfortunately though, because of the nature of your next task, I am taking away your powers, effective immediately.” With a snap of His fingers, the light around the two gunslingers distorted and the deathly aura around them vanished.
“I’ll let you two have some family time before you head out. You leave first thing in the morning,” the ground began to shake again, much like before, forming a hole into which Ducköden was swallowed into. It then quickly filled itself back with the surrounding sand to make it look like no hole was ever there.
The two stood in place for a solid minute, trying to take in everything Ducköden had said, until Tom looked over at James and spoke up.
“Your father too then, huh?”
“And his father and grandfather before him, apparently. I never knew.”
“Who is this duck anyway? Is now the time you tell me more about all of this?”
“Yes. Come inside. You and I both need a drink.”

Interesting. Has Ducköden been waiting through the years for this family's bloodline to produce someone able to handle his next task? Or was it that he needed two? Let me guess, I'll have to read on to find out? (If so, you're a tease. 😉)
Hopefully, James and Tom are going to drink something that doesn't have vomit-inducing ingredients!
Or maybe it was Ducköden that also needed some time to master making these gunslingers. :p
Your guessing game is strong, @brisby. :p Although I don't think the following few parts will already contain the answer to that question. Only Ducköden Himself knows, and he's god knows where at this point. :p

I dislike the taste of whiskey myself, so I think it depends on who you ask whether it's vomit-inducing or not :p

I kiiiind of think I went too far with the prompt yesterday and introduced something I'm not capable of handling in the coming freewrites... but oh well. :3 I guess diving headfirst into water is one way to learn how to swim...
