Ulog 26: Making the Miniature of our School Building!
I have been very busy making a miniature of the school for almost a three weeks now. This assignment was given to me by my co-teacher who was assigned to head the DRRM or the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management. The goal is to make representation of the school buildings and structures for easy identification of hazards and risks in our school.
He requested me to do this project since he does not know how to make architectural and stuctural models. And since he knows that I can do such thing. He also added that he needs to have the miniature as soon as two weeks. I told him I cannot do that because that is not my main work in the school. I have classes to attend and advisory works.
I asked him the budget to purchased the needed materials and tools. He only gave me 2000 pesos. I used that to buy the following: sintra boards, corrugated papers, shoes glue, cutters, rulers, glue, sticker papers and masking tape. I also used the money for the fare. Roughly, I spent almost 3000 pesos excluding the snacks I provide to my student assistants and the labor and service cost.
After the second day, we had only finished these three buildings walls and lobbies.
Fortunately, I found a great ally in making this project- my ex-drafting students especially Daryl Escasinas who was very compassionate to me when I asked help from him. There were also other times when my other previous drafting students helped me, this was if they were not so busy with school projects and assignments. These are Regine Alayaay, Mark Lawrence Sanchez, Princess Lyn Cabatingan and Christie Cabatingan.
After two weeks, we have already finished making the models of the ten buildings of our school and other important structures. So we then proceeded to the next procedure which is to paste the doors and windows which were printed on a sticker paper. This process took a little while because I couldn’t find a good sticker paper and printer. It is absolutely simple and great. By the way we scaled the doors and windows using Microsoft Word 2010 which is simply cool and easy.
After putting the doors and windows, it is already the time to add the ceiling and the roof. We used corrugated paper and folder for the roof and illustration boards for the ceiling. The process is very easy. First, we made two triangles whose angles are 30 x 30 x 120 which will be used as the truss and skeleton of the roof. Then, we covered it with a folder the width of the roof is 8.5 millimeters and the length depends on the length of the building including some adjustments.
Here’s a wrap of what we have finished for three weeks. Look at it from the top. Well, I am very happy because it is almost done now. Daryl cannot join me anymore for the finishing touches of this project because his classes will start tomorrow. So, it will be me who will fixed this on a plyboard. I will also be requesting my co-teacher to find a way to have this miniature be covered with a glass case for longevity of preservation. Or else, he cannot have this project that I have put my heart into for the past weeks sacrificing and comprimising some of my personal tasks and obligations.
Thank you so much for reading and dropping by here. I am really heart broken and angry because of the lack of support and unjust demands from co-workers but blogging has helped me release it. I hope I didn’t sound like ranting here. But if I do, my apology.
