HOW TO BE EFFECTIVE AS A SELF-TAUGHT ARTIST?

in #art6 years ago (edited)

Do you want to be an artist even without a proper training? What qualities should you have as a self-taught artist? How to be effective as a self-taught artist?

Yes, you are right! We will answer this few questions! For now, I would like to tell you that I am a self-taught artist. I am proud of that and I believe I am doing good at it. Here is my comparison drawing when I restarted to draw and my latest artwork.

  1. Do you want to be an artist even without a proper training?

    • First, you have to have that interest and passion of becoming an artist. When you know yourself enough, you are good to go!

    • Then, since you do not have a proper training, in a school or fine arts university, you have to accept that you are taking the role of a teacher and a learner. Meaning, you are going to teach yourself and then learn from it. That also means that this is not going to be easy, and you need to exert more if you want to be an artist.

    • Being a self-taught artist doesn't mean you are not listening or getting ideas, techniques, suggestions from other artists. Being self-taught artist doesn't separate you from other people/artist, the only difference is that you are not able to attend a proper training of the craft you want to do.

• PATIENCE. Your progress maybe slow because you don't undergo the basic steps and procedures. So, you need to have patience. This means, do not pressure yourself too much of expecting good results and outcomes. Be happy everytime you created something.

• GOAL-ORIENTED. You set a goal not expectations. The goal will keep you in track. This will also extract your self-determination and perseverance to finish something you have started.

• FLEXIBILITY. Yes, you do not have a proper training but that doesn't limit your capability to learn and explore. Make the world your training ground. Listen to ideas, observe others, and be flexible and open to new things.

• CREATIVITY. You need to be creative and resourceful every step of the way. You might be given so much or close to no information sometimes in your journey of becoming an artist, so just be creative to this situations.

• CONFIDENCE. In every human endeavor, one of the best ways in achieving one's goal is believing in one's self. You need to believe in yourself. Claim that you can be someone you want to be.

THE QUESTION IS WHEN DO YOU START?
