in #travel6 years ago (edited)

hello dear friends

the turn of the year is over and i am still in buenos aires for a few more days before my journey continues towards brazil.
today i would like to describe some nice days in bariloche, in the south of argentina that i spent with schnilskinski and johnny.

have fun with the little South American time out!

12.3. - 9.12.

The rich breakfast with cereals and egg brought us into a good mood for the strenuous tasks that awaited us today.
Nils went into the Neoprene suit, he would go with the kayak and dive/digg some clay in a bay close by.
meanwhile johnny and i prepared the so-called gray-water-planter. this is a big hole in the floor of the greenhouse, later it will be a kind of bed for plants in the living room.

the walls are piled up from car tires and we press and stretch the muddy clay into the cavities between the tires to create a nice even smooth surface so that when we lay out the plastic later, the tires and stones can not tear it anywhere.

These tanks or planters are very important for the water treatment of the house. the used shower or wash water (greywater) is piped down into the tank, where it is filtered on the way up through the layers of large and small stones, on the one hand and on the other hand can deliver its nutrients to the plants rooted in the tank.
at the other end of the tank, there is another pipe and a pump which resumes this filtered water and feeds it into a second water circuit, e.g. the toilet flush supplies.
By the way, you can grow plants without fertilizers and artificial products in just these planters. Johnny plans an avocado tree and a banana tree.
fascinatingly simple well-thought-out system.
to eat there is a good asado and we drink a beer in the afternoon, because that was a lot of work today.
we went to bed early.

Well rested today after breakfast, we started cutting a gigantic plastic tarp.

for that, I first measured the hole and then cut off a try on piece, with nils.
It was a good fit so we went to prepare five more pieces and then layer them on top of each other. six layers will be enough to prevent rooting and keep the tank tidy.
Together with Johnny, who had done some errands in the city, we carried everything down and fitted.

while i was busy making hummus and baking bread, johnny and nils, along with julian, installed the water supply pipes and filled in the first stones.
in the evening I pleased myself with the harry podcast of coldmirror.

another day starts fresh and sunny, we stack more stones around the greywater planter and support the pipes.

then we prepare the peat moss separating layer. this is a kind of big bag, also from the same plastic tarp, which is filled with peat mosses. This bag is placed in the middle of the pit and perforated with a pointed object when filling. the mosses in the interior act as a very fine filter because the cells of the plants can absorb up to 30 times the amount of water and thus creates a fine lattice.

Today there was some leftover meat from the asado and a fresh salad.
In the afternoon, Nils prepared an area with a jackhammer. On another side of the house, we will build a foundation and later this construction will be replaced by a so-called gabion. you've probably already seen that in the mountains on the road. It is a galvanized steel wire braid, which is formed into a basket. this is later filled with stones and thus serves as a good basis for the wall of car tires on the east side of the house.

In the evening we hang around in the quincho, listen to music and try to find out why the heating is not heating.

When we had breakfast together, we started the job by filling the hole. Many pebbles were driven by Nils with the wheelbarrow and then distributed in the hole.
I then worked on bending the steel framework for the gabions substructure, and when johnny had drilled the holes connecting everything later with the rock, we fixed everything with some cement.

Then Nils and I cut a large piece of a kind of textile mat, which should act as a separating layer between the pebbles and the following sand and prevent the sand from simply washing itself down.
When we were done, we enjoyed the grooved chicken that was cooked by nils.

then nils brought several carts full of sand and we filled up the last bit with sieved earth.

in the evening we were done, but also very happy that we have done it all today and drove to the sunset, all together to the beer garden of the patagonia brewery, from whose meadow one can marvel wonderfully the sky in these beautiful colors.

Having had a hearty breakfast, we started today by carrying everything, that we need to pour the cement foundation. Sand, pebbles and water were brought down, electricity for the mixer and some buckets to transport. then we were ready to go.
Of course, Tijo is also part of the party ...

I mixed everything together in the right ratio and Nils then carried the filled buckets over to Johnny, who used these and some stones to put the foundation together.
Due to the lack of winds, the sun bounced particularly hard today and we were sweating very heavily even though we were only wearing bathing trunks. But as Kliemann has already said, real cement is mixed with real men's sweat instead of water.
An old surf sail offered us some protection from the sun and this great playlist I found on Spotify also helped.

At the end we jumped into the lake less to get clean again, than much more to cool down.

besides, since yesterday evening we have a dog here on the property, a stranger, we do not know and who has never been here before. he was named bobby and we will see in the next days what we can do with him.

For dinner, we had pizzas today, which we baked in the small stone oven. delicious!

We slept forever on saturday today.
Around noon, we had a small breakfast and I started transferring the measurements on the van interieur, that johnny and i had been taking yesterday. we will build a foldable bed in the back of the storage part.
i use the software sketch up from google and it's just the best, if you do not have a clear idea of something to design before you start sawing wood.

unfortunately, the mac of johnny but has a few quirks and spontaneously decided that I had worked enough, which is why he simply shut down without that I could save my ideas.
We spent the afternoon with some friends of Johnny, who came to taste some bread with us and drink mate.

In the evening I tried to design a bit further, before I started to watch the first episode of Game of Thrones, quite difficult to stay awake when it is already so dark outside ...

Today, too, was relatively quiet again, after breakfast, I kept working on the design for the bed in the bus.
heating in the quincho has not been as functional for a few days as it should be, so nils has dismantled and cleaned it today. He has found that the so-called piezzo detonator is broken, which also ensures the spark in the lighter.

I also showed Nilsi how to make the dough for the bread and what to pay attention to when baking so that he can make the daily bread next time.
Towards evening, I tinkered a bit further on my mate idea and packed my things together, because tomorrow we would start a small trip to el bolson.
it went to bed early.

woohoo, so that we have finally arrived at the end of the reports. Thanks for reading and see you soon!

love
