hello dear friends

what? why? you might ask yourself, pauli again in chile? yes, we spent four days in the región de aysén in the south of this gigantic country. Today i'll tell you, what beautiful things we've seen there and besides, I've once again recorded a small video with the gopro, have fun reading ...

11.13. - 16.11.

It was not so cold in the tent as we had expected and so in the morning we were quite well rested. we packed the tent together, before we picked up a few pan rolls and hot water at the small shop of the village.
then the journey continued on one of the most beautiful roads and by noon we reached the destination, which is why we had even come to chile: the marble caves.

more precisely, we reached a small bay with a blue house, here we found a man who could drive us to the caves, for about 13 € per person, with his boat.
this spectacle is hard to describe with words, but I still try it. this peculiarity of nature is caused by the erosion of the marble rock, which has been almost licked out by the wave movements of the lake. Caves emerge, which are even big enough to drive through the boat and create a lot of bizarre shapes that you can admire in the video.
particularly impressive is the so-called Cathedral of the marble. a giant block that looks like a small island and he can be admired from all sides. like a holey swiss cheese, the water has eaten through the layers that are closest to the water.

Again, you can strongly notice the tourism, which causes the boats to almost collide on the water, it is quite difficult to take a picture without other boats. this is understandable, because you do not want to miss something so beautiful, I am very happy that we have been here.
When we finally got back in the car, we drove up the mountain to the larger road and unfortunately, borravina, as the car of cami and fede lovingly calls, did not make it all by itself and we pushed it up the dirtroad.

we arrived in rio tranquillo and we could see, what extent of tourism has already taken. it was not possible to find a bed for less than $ 15 and the boating outlets line up like the migratory birds on the power lines.
So we stopped just to have a pizza and drink a beer before heading off to the next village.

rio murta, is also a very small village and after some searching, a man spoke to us on the street, he knew a cheap accommodation. We drove to the address and a very very dear woman opened us and then showed us the newly finished cabana, so a kind of cottage, which we could rent for 25,000 pesos, per night. but Chilean pesos, so just over 30 €.
We moved in and then we went out again to buy some beer, but we only had US $ and Argentine pesos, so it was a bit difficult.
Finally, we bought a couple of sixpacks from a woman who was original like the simpsons cat's lady. She did not want to accept my five dollar bill because he was not Catholic enough for her ?! So I ran back to get another one.

the very nice evening we spent with fede and cami in front of the wood stove, with a game called dixie, a very creative picture card game that brings a lot of fun.

)!

we crawled into the beds late and I had, because there were two rooms here, a whole bed for me alone. that's real luxury after the strains and the life on the street in the last weeks.

the next morning we got up late, we were all ready to leave together at about 12 o'clock. So we left the little town and drove about one and a half hours, until we came to a roadblock.
this further part of the route will be overhauled, so we can take a 100km detour over sandy lanes or wait until 5pm, we turn around and drive the road back.

We decided to wait at a very scenic turn and play some soccer on the slopes.
we continued to cerro castillo, but only after 17 o'clock. Here we drove first to a small tire workshop, because the rear right tire had barely any air. we dismantled him on the road and the mature man discovered a sharp piece of metal, that we had probably retracted at the construction site.
As we continue up the mountain, the engine got pretty hot and we turn around again. For chris, nils and me it was time to look for a place to sleep again. We found a hiker hostel that was affordable.
fede and cami then waited until 21 o'clock for the mechanic of the village, who was also the baker in a panderia.
meanwhile we cooked some noodles in the hostel and when we had eaten, we enjoyed the incredible slow hostel wifi. before we went to sleep, we said goodbye to cami, fede was still with the mechanic working on the car.

Actually we had planned to go to coyhaique after breakfast with the only bus leaving at 11am.
However, it turned out that fede and the mechanic / baker were successful yesterday and we decided to travel together with the two best Argentinians.

thanks to a small repair on the engine, the mountain was no problem for us and we reached coyhaique without any problems. Apart from the trash can at a gas station, which caught fire, because someone of us gringos wanted to dispose of his cigarette stub environmentally friendly and probably not turned it off before...

Arriving at the bus station, we said goodbye to cami and fede, this time for real, but since they also travel to bariloche, this may not be our last reunion. We then looked for our possibilities to continue traveling. for tomorrow we found a bus that would take us across the border to argentina and to rio mayo. quite expensive, but unfortunately our only option. then Chris and I set out to find the cheapest accommodation in the city and then returned to shop with Nils together. In the hostel we ate a good potato gratain and then went to sleep early, because tomorrow should expect us a grueling bus ride.

We awoke in the hostel and got us a good breakfast on the way to the bus station. As we get on the bus and leave, we look forward to being back in Argentina soon. chile is much more expensive, especially in the region around coyhaique.

At some point we reach the Argentine border post, in the mountains. because the bus is almost full, the cross-border lasts half an eternity. everyone has to show their passport and on the chilean side every piece of luggage was scanned again. just when we were back on the street and thought now it finally goes on, stops the bus again.
It's lunch time, as if we had not had enough time while waiting. but we took it easy ...
our final station is called rio mayo, this is a small town on the ruta 40 and so we thought, here we will find a bus that drives us to or at least in the direction of bariloche.
however, the first thing that strikes us was, that we are the only three people to get of here.
the so-called bus station is a kind of winter garden, on a house and he does not open until 16 o'clock.
So Nils accepts his God given task and plays the watchman, while Chris and I walk into the city with great hopes.
we walked into the streets, there are hardly any affordable accommodations, everybody says that it would have been better to continue to comodoro on the coast and that the tourist information is closed. nevertheless, we just went to the house, where it should be. when we reach the small wooden hut at the entrance to the city, our last hopes disappear. In a sense, a rio mayo feeling is spreading.
but, In the small hut there were two girls and two boys, so we try our luck and in the next one and a half hours, much was explained, laughed and organized. The four were super friendly and extremely helpful.
We now had a plan: About 0 o'clock we will drive out of town, with the father of the one boys. here runs the ruta 26, which leads from comodoro to north, here it becomes ruta 40.
There we wait for the bus, which passes at about 1 o'clock at night and stops especially for us. He then takes us to Esquel, from where we continue to Bariloche.
Happy we run back to Nils and shared the good news with him. then we went looking for a postcard, we got into a small shop and printed one of our "waiting on the streets" picture. the very nice saleswoman even gave me 6 old film roles, because in the orbit of 200 km, no one can develop here, so everybody stops analogue photography. good for me, because the rolls would have cost me € 25 and now I just have to hope that the rolls did not get too much sun and provide some nice photos.

We each printed this postcard twice.
We spend the evening in a restaurant near the gas station, the meeting point for our unofficial taxi. Nils made friends with a puppy here.

Arriving almost at the intersection, we saw a bus driving past the intersection. We got a lot of apprehension and after the driver turns around, we realize that if there is no bus here, that's the end of it.
So we all drink a beer quickly to keep us warm.
We looked at the stars and slowly got more nervous, as after about half an hour wait actually a bus stopped and we could continue on our journey asleep.

this is probably the last chile post, for this trip. Thank you for reading what I report and see you soon friends
