Computer Customization

11:13 AM: How do we get stuff done faster? I've not been a fan of the Unity user interface (UI) which mirrors Apple desktops in some ways. They put Unity on Ubuntu. I'm more of a fan of customization of the panels in the UI, the desktop. It's important to be able to add and remove items off the panels. Also, I prefer functionality over special effects on the desktop. I don't need glitter. I just need to be able to switch between windows, tabs, programs, as fast as possible without delay. I'm talking about GNOME 2. I've rarely used KDE. So, I think KDE is the UI for Kubuntu, which is focused on education, right? I like KDE over what Lubuntu uses. I know Lubuntu is Light Ubuntu and Xubuntu is Internet Ubuntu. How many different flavors are there?

Panopticon

01:39 PM: What is a Panopticon? I had to lookup Panopticon. The term was introduced in the late 18th century. The idea is all about having inmates observed without them knowing it. A single guard may not be able see all of the prisoners at the same time, but psychologically, they don't know if or when they're being observed. So, they tend to act like and feel they are always being observed which can make them self-censor themselves like Facebook and others make us self-censor and modify our behavior as well.
