Happy anniversary to me - Reflections on my first year on SteemitsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Some of you might have been wondering where I’ve been for the last couple of weeks. I’ve had some family things going on, the subject of another post maybe, and that may go on for a while. So apologies to all my dear Steemit friends whose posts I’ve missed (or will miss), whose comments have gone unanswered and who I’ve generally neglected.

But today is my one year anniversary, so time to look back on the past year. (For a musical accompaniment, see my Steemiversary PS post)

Shortly after Jeff Berwick recommended Steemit to his followers, James Corbett followed suit and @sift666 came aboard on the 11th August 2016. Three days later, I had to join him on this amazing journey, and what a ride it’s been. I could talk about numbers of posts or numbers of followers, but those are not what Steemit has been about for me.

The most important thing is the number of amazing people I’ve met here. Too many to mention, and I’d hate to risk missing someone out. But you know who you are. The people, the community, the connection – that is what makes Steemit special.

The second reason for me to be thankful to Steemit is that it got me writing again. Over the years I’ve written many webpages, but had been stuck in a rut for a long time. Steemit broke that dry patch. I know I sometimes go weeks without posting, but it’s not from lack of inspiration. As I look back over some of my old posts I remember a bunch of other things I want to write about – when time and energy permits.

As a nutrition coach and natural health practitioner, those are the topics I expected to mostly write about. But I’ve actually written about all sorts of things. So here’s a recap of some of those topics – complete with links to all my old posts.

Recipes

Many of my clients have food allergies, and one of the things I love to do is create new recipes. There are lots of people on Steemit who post amazingly delicious looking recipes, including @gringalicious, @rebeccaryan and @woman-on the-wing. My approach is a bit more pragmatic – how can I help my clients make tasty, healthy, low allergy food that isn’t too time consuming. So that is my niche – food that is whole food, gluten free, often starch or dairy free, usually suitable for Paleo. Even if you don’t have allergies or sensitivities, I think you’d like most of these recipes:

• BREAKFASTS: Choc Blackcurrant Smoothie ~ Feijoa Pear Smoothie ~ Cashew Porridge ~ Other Breakfast ideas
• BREADS & BAKING: Grain free, dairy free Pumpkin & Cashew Bread ~ Grain Free Banana Cashew muffins ~ Carrot Almond bread ~ Vegetable muffins ~ Grain free cheese muffins ~ Happy birthday to me! with birthday cake recipe… ~ Grain Free Apple Cashew Walnut Muffins ~ Carrot Cashew Blender Bread ~ Stove top grain free bread ~ Apple Walnut Coconut Flour muffins
• SOUPS & DINNERS: Warming winter soup ~ Paleo Cottage Pie ~ I judged the Steemit Culinary Challenge: Paleo ~ No potato fries / NZ sweet potatoes ~ “Use up those vegetables that you bought and never used” winter soup
• SNACKS & FINGER FOODS: Healthy Chocolate & Fudge ~ Jerky with vegetables ~ Choco-mallow protein bars ~ Grain free Fruit & Nut bar ~ Finger food for a gathering ~ Real food ideas for snacks and road trips

Music

I’ve always loved music and dancing. In my youth I did a lot of dance recitals and musicals and now I’m a member of a community choir. I’m in my 60th year and in that time have found a LOT of music I love, and love to share with fellow Steemians:

Other Entertainment

I love to read and am a fan of movies and live theatre. One of the highlights of my year is the Wearable Arts Award Show (WOW). One thing I’ve never done much of though is creative writing. But since being on Steemit I have written a handful of short stories. I’m never going to be in the league of the awesome authors I’ve found on Steemit, but I was quite proud of my efforts.

happy anniversary - mine is coming up next week i think

yes your absence was noted....

Nice good yummy post

welcome back , and a happy anniversary
Great to see back @kiwideb
Cheers!

happy one year Steemit anniversary :) missed your posts the last few weeks

I think I need to binge read some of your posts. So good to have another kiwi on Steemit. Happy anniversary :)

To echo this @kiwideb66 - it looks like you've conveniently provided us the perfect opportunity to binge read your other posts! haha anyway I appreciate the reflection, it gives me a sense for what is possible to accomplish after a year of steady posting. I've only been here a few weeks myself! It sounds like it has definitely been worth the time commitment to you then? :)

welcome back, as i welcomed my new self here.

Congratulations on ur one year anniversary and ur contributions towards the steemit community , good topics I've posted about will browse through a few of them later, I guess what'll interest me most is healthy eating and exercises .

not sure what kind of exercise you're into, but whatever you do, they key is consistency. If you can make a plan and monitor your results, so much the better. I was just chatting with @hardikv about this in his post :) if you're curious >

Thanks for the mention @jobsande! ✨
@moonprincess, do you blog about health and fitness? Will check out your blog

sure thing ;)

Thank u for sharing this post and advice , so true that consistency is main.

Life should always come first. Steemit will be waiting for you after you resolve all of the real-world issues, my friend. Oh, I didn't know you and @sift666 came here because of Berwick haha I remember that day when he registered. The whole place was buzzing. First time I saw an introduction post reach a thousand dollars. That's what encouraged me to make an introduction post of my own, which sadly barely made a quarter hahaha! It's what led me to quit Steemit haha but enough about me.

CONGRATULATIONS on your Steemiversary! I imagine that you and @sift666 have tons of food in store for the celebration. You know I'm a fan of your pragmatic cooking, so I can't wait until you come back full time here. Be well, my friend!

@jedau you only made a quarter of a thousand dollars? Aw that sucks, :P jk jk I know what you meant, just joking around. Crazy that he made so much, but he is one of the biggest names in crypto so I guess it's not that surprising...if only we all had that kind of rep. Well, gotta start somewhere I guess :)

LOL when I said I barely made a quarter, I didn't mean a quarter of a thousand dollars. I made exactly $0.27 on an introduction/birthday post chock with information and what not. Suffice to say, I quit Steemit soon after.

Honestly? Before Steemit, I really don't know the guy haha And I feel like I was well-versed in crypto back then. I'm just not into non-technical personalities I guess.

hah yeah I know, I was just kidding around. Well clearly you didn't quit Steemit for long, seems like you're doing pretty well here :)

I quit for less than 3 months, so yeah it wasn't that long. But, considering Steemit has only been here for less than a year and a half, it was quite a lot. The people I called peers back then have since become dolphins and whales. So yeah, success is relative haha!

Fair enough, Steem time does go by quick, although to me it seems like a snowball affect.. VERY slow for most at the beginning (unless they're folks like @jeffberwick coming in with a massive following already), then bit by bit building up Steem (pun intended) until you grow faster...

haha loving those animal analogies... so if they're dolphins and whales, you'd be an otter? sea porpoise? cause you're not a minnow... :P

LOL I am a minnow, and the fact that I'm not considered one is a bit saddening haha Minnows tend to band together and support each other, excluding accounts like mine, and dolphins and whales support minnows, once again excluding accounts like mine haha! Maybe they think accounts like mine doesn't need help anymore since I should already be getting a constant stream of votes, but I don't. I'm averaging roughly around 30 votes if autovotes aren't counted haha

I would love to be an otter though!

Nah, you're definitely at least an otter. 30 votes for a post is great! Not to complain, because I know I still have a long way to go I'm in this for the long run, staying positive etc etc buuut I did put in a couple hours to post this last night, and it got 3 votes and 1 cent (which was from me haha) https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@jobsande/betting-over-usd200-in-2-seconds-my-crazy-bitcoin-casino-adventure

Congratulations on your 1st Steemit anniversary! That's a great recap of all your articles. I like how you organized your recipes. I don't think I realized how many music posts you've made, too. Here's to a great 2nd year on Steemit -- and even greater success for you with your posts and in reaching people with your important content!

Awesome anniversary post! I've only been here just over a month... I'm looking forward to when I can look back over the year and see how far I've come. I'm also really into paleo style eating (sometimes dipping into keto and sometimes dipping into raw foods). I'm gonna be checking out these recipes of yours!

Cheers, and followed. :)

p.s. That purple dress is the BOMB!!
