RIP John Clarke aka Fred Dagg
This post is in memory of a great (now late) NZ comedian, whose alter ego was a farmer known as Fred Dagg.
Apart from @sift666, @len.george and @trevor.george, others may view this video with some confusion.
Fred lived down on the farm with the old sheila (his wife) and the Trevs (his sons) and had a somewhat laconic view on life. There are not many of the Dagg skits on Youtube, but here's his famous song about gumboots. You'll probably find the first minute (first two verses) to be best.
And here's a short audio on teaching the old sheila to drive the tractor:
Thanks for reading and yes, that really is all - probably the shortest post I'll ever do

I bet the people of Taihape are in deep mourning today.
As the best loved and most famous graduate from the University of Taihape, Fred Dagg did a rare thing..... he went about things in the kiwi way and by just being himself became a part of how we identify ourselves.
If you look at television and advertising since the 70s you will see lots of references to Fred and his wonderful use of language and startling insights into the workings of the world, especially when it comes to sheep.
Yes! A valuable part of us developing a sense of kiwi-ness.
All the trev's are in mourning. The iconic kiwi bloke.
I'm sure all the sheilas are in mourning too
Yeah but he never mentioned the Sheilas, only the trevs, and there were lots of them.
Now this is song to start a Monday morning, hahaha. I could definitely drink some beer listening to this song :)
Ideally a good strong kiwi pint of bitter
First time I've heard this song, but it is forever stuck in my head now. Think it might go down better with a few drinks though...lol!
it always sounds better with a few drinks, the more drinks the better it sounds, from practical experance.
even little strands stick in the head from here onward.
I've had it going round in my head all day too :-)
Wasn't aware of John Clarke's earlier work until his passing. Great to see this video now Deb. And, don't I know that feeling of being stuck in the mud with your gumboots on and trying to reach clean ground without getting your white socks all muddy. 🙏 😊 🙏
Absolutely! Cos no matter how wonderful they are, they don't stay on in that kind of situation.
