Hi friends!

As I told you in 5-lesson knowing our materials and tools is an important aspect to keep in mind if we want to improve our drawing skills.

*

-----------------------------------------------

In this video, I show you how I prepare my pencils to draw.

Try to get a tip of 1 or 1.5 cm.

Also, try to always buy good quality pencils.

Good quality pencils have a good quality wooden casing, which will not crack or splinter when you cut it. Good quality graphite has no impurities so the lead has an even hardness.
Above all, avoid hitting your pencil (falling to the ground, for example) because the graphite will break inside.

I wish you a very nice day and good exercise!

And if you like to colour your drawings, I recommend the interesting and useful Color and Light classes of @fumansiu whose concepts you can apply both with traditional and digital techniques.

***Or maybe you want to make a beautiful watercolour with your drawing!
Well, our friend @arcoiris is back with his magnificent watercolour lessons. ***

Great post!
I also sharpen my pencils with a utility knife (the graphite stick too).

For other brands (not Staedtler), I use a canister sharpener:

Good to know:
You can throw the Faber-Castel 9000 and Faber-Castell Grip 2001 from 3rd floor and nothing will break.
That is why I use the Grip 2001 for teaching, because my students sometimes accidently drop them.
Some brands have strong enough polymers that keep them from breaking when falling.

Once again, great post, and important topic.

Hi Ran! Thank you very much for stopping by and for this great comment that complements mine with your interesting information about it.
Greetings.

My pleasure.
Again, great post as usual by you.

Hi Jorge, it is nice to see how you shapen the pencil. Your knife is like cutter knife for carpet.

I used a knife from kitchen maybe it is not really to sharp and also I did not do such long tip, but your pencil looks great. There is quite a lot of graphite that is collected :)

I'm afraid that kind of knife is not the best for sharpening a pencil. It is graphite from various pencils.
