Drawing like a pro - 65, The triangle as base (Power up 100%)

Hi friends!

To draw an object with a triangular base in perspective we will draw an equilateral triangle first, as in the previous lesson. 64-Lesson

-----------------------------------------------

We draw an equilateral triangle at the bottom of our drawing paper, making sure that the vertices are not in the same vertical position. See 64-Lesson
01.jpg

Then, we draw the vertical lines starting from the three vertices of the triangle, as you can see in the image below.
02.jpg

We make a sketch using the vertical helplines as a reference for the sides of the object. Notice the bottom line of the object. This vertex (circled) corresponds to that of the triangle (also circled).
03.jpg

If we extend the line of the triangle and that of its equivalent in the drawn object, the point of intersection of both vanishing lines will be the vanishing point VP1 which will also be the reference to draw the horizon line.
04.jpg

See the correspondence of vertex 1 and vertex 2 of the equilateral triangle with the same vertices in the object. We need to check now if vertex 3 is placed at the correct height in our drawing.
05.jpg

To verify this, we need to extend the other side of the triangle until it reaches the horizon line. That point will be the second vanishing point, VP2. Then we draw a vanishing line from vertex 2 in our drawing to VP2 which allows us to establish a good position for vertex 3 if this is not already right.

This process of drawing all the helplines that we may need is already known. If not, please see: 38-Masterclass

Drawing the outlines...
08.jpg

This is the drawing of helplines to define the height of the sun and its position with respect to the ground. We have already seen this topic in previous lessons. See 60 Masterclass and 61-HW Contest
09.jpg

Here we must pay attention to this process...
Imagine that this section of the drawing is floating in the air.
To determine the height of this section, we need to draw a vertical line starting at vertex A to intersect the baseline of the object (A'), then at this point of intersection, we draw a horizontal line that will intersect the sun ray helpline falling to the ground on A''.
The same process for vertex B.
C and D correspond to external vertices, so the helplines are already drawn.
10.jpg

We draw the shadow by joining all the points of intersection between the sun's rays and the lines on the ground.
11.jpg

One way to check if the shadow was drawn correctly is this: draw the shadow helplines towards VP1, this should match.

Finished drawing.

I wish you a very nice day and good exercise!

And if you like to colour your drawings, I recommend the interesting and useful Color and Light classes of @fumansiu whose concepts you can apply both with traditional and digital techniques.
