Drawing like a pro - 22, examining our drawing(Power up 100%)

Hi friends!

Practising the techniques to get the best drawing results with our tools and materials is very important, but there are also other important aspects to keep in mind when we want to draw realistically:

° Observation

° Knowledge

-----------------------------------------------

*

°Observation

Learning to observe is essential. Observing we will capture many characteristics of a model to be drawn, it forms, obviously, or Is it opaque? Is it transparent? Is it shiny? Is it smooth? etc.
We will know the properties of a model or object because of the light it reflects, so a good interpretation of what we see thanks to the projected light and the reflected light is essential.

° Knowledge

What we have learned, through the study, about our model comes to help us to take care of the interpretation that we must make of it when drawing and what we learn from drawing techniques such as perspective or lighting allows us to make a good representation in the drawing.

Well, it goes without saying that observation and knowledge must always go together when we draw.

-----------------------------------------------

When we draw from "imagination", we are actually drawing from our memory. We remember the characteristics of an object or model based on what we have seen and learned about it.
So it's very easy to make mistakes because of some forgotten details or something we didn't know when drawing without a model.

In the previous post (21-Lesson) where I showed you the exercise of drawing a mortar, I made some mistakes because I did the drawing without a model and without seriously thinking about the lighting and the projected shadows.

-----------------------------------------------

To study the shape and how light falls on it and how shadows are cast, I've made this 3D model for comparison.

The drawing

These are the differences I can see:

The shadow that falls on the ground is not correct.
The shadow in the hole is too big on the left.
I forgot to darken the groove on the left face.
The upper face of the mortar is too dark in relation to the lateral face of the front.

If we intend to make a realistic interpretation of our model, these subtle signals can lead to an erroneous perception of our drawing.
So, it is advisable to try to compare our drawing with a reference if we do not have enough knowledge of it to avoid making mistakes.

I leave you here some stages of the modelling process to match the position of the mortar and the direction of the light that falls on it with the drawing I made earlier.

Starting by making a rhombus.

Using the Boolean tool to make the holes.

Making the groove.

The background and the ground give a scenery to place the object (mortar).

Hi Jorge, thank you for continuing with your tutorials. I am watching every of your work and as I was planning will have some practicing this weekend. You have perhaps noticed I had no new works due to lack of time and concentration but also I promise my mother to knit a cardigan till end of June and a bit struggling with some part of it. That usually happens when we plan many different things to do.

Anyway, just wanted to say that really enjoyed your illustration of digital drawing, looks so complex but so beautiful at the end :)

You post is nominated for „Wold of xpilar“ Community Support Program, @booming account upvote. Only the posts that are not cross posted, original and posted from community page are eligible. If your post gets approval, then you get upvote within few days. Good luck!

Hi Stef, thanks to you for supporting me! Yes, I was wondering "where were you" 😄
Have a very fine weekend!

Muy buen tutorial, debo aprender esta técnica de la luz y oscuridad. Éxitos!

Gracias! luego comenzaré a tratar perspectiva e iluminación en mis publicaciones.
