Drawing like a pro - 64, Fundamental basic shapes - 1, The Triangle (Power up 100%)

Hi friends!

Unless we are dedicated to architecture or technical drawing, most of the measurements we take when drawing are relative, they are in relation to our drawing sheet or with respect to other parts of our drawing. A figure is twice or triple or quintuple bigger or smaller with respect to another figure, by example.
We do not take our measurements or in cm. nor in in., or another kind of measures like these.
This is why I consider it essential to know how to draw basic figures without having to take measures for it.
The condition that these figures must meet is to have all their sides equal.
The simplest figure we can draw is the triangle (3 sides). In this case, the triangle that we will draw is an equilateral triangle.

Follow these simple steps:

Draw a circle and place a point on the circumference.

Then, using a drawing compass, measure the radius of the circle and draw a line that intersects the circumference as shown below.

Make the same for the opposite side, bottom.

Now, take the measurement between the two points...

...and draw a third intersection at the circumference on the left side as shown in this drawing below.

To make sure the measurement is correct, do the same thing but in the opposite sense. Both intersections must coincide.

To finish, trace straight lines between the three points to obtain an equilateral triangle. It was easy, right?

In the next post, we'll see a practice application of this in perspective.

I wish you a very nice day and good exercise!

And if you like to colour your drawings, I recommend the interesting and useful Color and Light classes of @fumansiu whose concepts you can apply both with traditional and digital techniques.

Hi Jorge, that looks so beautiful way to create such correct shape of triangle. I think we have a drawing compass at home, my husband used it long ago so need to get it and practice too.
