Drawing like a pro - 1, The Craft of Drawing

in WORLD OF XPILAR2 years ago

Hi Steemians!

I would like to talk to you about drawing.
I would like to share with you what I learned from my teachers, friends, from other artists, and why not from my own practice and studies as a painter or draftsman.
I would like to talk to you today about the importance of drawing because it is often valued as the little brother of the visual arts.
Drawing transcends all periods of human existence, art as we know it today is a direct consequence of the first drawings made by humans many thousands of years ago.

The drawing was the first form of communication, even before writing and it is still today the best way to represent something that we cannot do with words.
Have you thought about how important it is to draw in our daily lives? The chair you use, your pc or laptop, the car, the buildings, your house, your clothes, your shoes, etc, etc. everything starts as a drawing. And yet, drawing is undervalued, even by those who practice it.

From cave drawing to drawing as an art in itself there is a rich and interesting path.
The drawing has been used as a way to represent an idea or to make a study of a certain subject or to look for different ways of making a composition, but many great artists have gone further by making the drawing a work of art.

Thus, today we know many artists who have made drawing their way of artistic expression. To reach this stage it is necessary to take certain steps very seriously.
First of all, you must see drawing as a craft and learn the craft of drawing.
What does that mean? It means that you must learn to use the tools and materials to make your work more efficient and obtain better results.
For example, you must learn to hold pencils or know which paper best suits your goals.
You must learn how to avoid damage to your supports (often paper) or how to correct some mistakes made when you are drawing.
As important as this is knowing yourself, your ability to observe, your muscle memory, and what you have learned from the study.
You must learn to observe in all its aspects, establishing relations of size, luminosity, closeness, depth, etc.
Exercise is one of the most important aspects of muscle memory, but learning from the study is also very important, moreover, exercise without study is a great limitation and vice versa, study without practice does not mean any progress.
Knowing the properties of your materials and tools is also very important, if you know the qualities of your materials you will know their limits and advantages.
In future posts, I will develop some of these aspects. I hope you find them interesting.

Have a nice day!

Hey greetings, like and follow me confirm follow back and like on every post

Hi Jorge, thank you for the introduction into how to start to draw. I think it is important to let the beginner know to learn where to start and also do not fear making mistakes. Many maybe tried and if it was not successful first time have stopped completely. But it is often two main reason behind the success: patience and time. We want everything and immediately.

I love the sketches of old masters and one of my favourite is of course Leonardo, who due to his will to learn reach perfection in many different fields.

I also agree that we can apply the skill of drawing anywhere, like in my profession I use drawing of anatomy, of course simple sketches for our students and also have to do even more simpler for my patients.

I really love your Inside view and will be happy to read the next post.

Dear @steemcurator01, would you please review this post of Professional Artist Jorge Van de Perre and his introduction into beginning of drawing. I hope you will find it valuable and also this user is Powering Up following the rules.

Thanks you,

Nice introduction friend Jorge
This may be an "Introduction" to the cycle of master classes.
You have a good teacher's style and professional approach. In fact, you can open the "WOX Art School". How do you like this idea?

Thank you bambuka! in fact that is my intention, to start with certain concepts by way of introduction. A WOX Art School, isn't that too much? I think you overestimate me. 😄

This is not an academic public school. This is a school for emerging artists from the WOX community. I don't think it will be difficult for you 🙂

After introductory lessons (such as this one), you can cycle lessons from easy to more difficult with some specific outcome in mind at the end of each course.

Each course consists of several master classes. At the end of each MС, homework is given for a period of one week. They send you the completed work in the comments to the MС and you give feedback and evaluate the achievements.

You announce the three best results (the post of the participant with the completed task) and the posts of these participants are curated by WOX. This is a good motivation in addition to purely educational purposes.

In addition, to attract participants, I will announce your MС in a post pinned in the community feed for a period of one week (maybe 5 days to have time to complete the task).

This is how I see the mechanics of WOX Art School. You may have other plans and a different approach. This is just a suggestion based on the drawing MC series already done here.

I think that such an initiative will be useful for the creative community.

Hi bambuka! I agree with you and I find this a very good idea.
I'm working on the next introductory posts before initiating the MC including homework. I'll try to follow your suggestions. Thanks for the support!!
