어느 맑은 봄날, 바람에 이리저리 휘날리는 나뭇가지를 바라보며 제자가 물었다.

"스승님, 저것은 나뭇가지가 움직이는 겁니까, 바람이 움직이는 겁니까?"

스승은 제자가 가르키는 것은 보지도 않은 채, 웃으며 말했다.

"무릇 움직이는 것은 나뭇가지도 아니고 바람도 아니며, 네 마음뿐이다."

흔들리는 것은 자신의 마음뿐입니다. 그런데 흔들렸다는 것이 문제가 됐습니다. 선우는 그렇게 자신의 터전을 잃게 됩니다.

냉철하고 완벽한 일처리, 과묵하고 묵직한 의리로 선우는 보스의 두터운 신임을 받으며 스카이 라운지의 경영을 책임지고 있습니다. 그런 그에게 보스는 사적인 부탁을 하게 됩니다.

보스에게는 다른 이들에게 말하지 못하는 숨겨둔 젊은 애인이 있습니다. 그런데 애인에게 다른 남자가 생겼다는 것을 알게 되고, 뒤처리를 선우에게 맡기게 됩니다.

보스의 여자를 감사하게 되는 선우. 어느 날 그녀가 남자 친구와 같이 있는 장면을 목격한 그는 결정적인 순간에 두 사람을 놓아주게 됩니다. 마음이 흔들렸기 때문입니다.

하지만 이 일은 선우 인생에서 가장 큰 재앙으로 되돌아 오게 됩니다. 배신이라고 생각한 보스는 선우를 마음에서 지우게 되고 조직 전체가 선우의 적이 되고 맙니다.

지하로 내려오는 첫 장면은 어쩌면 선우의 상황을 예견하는 암시인지도 모르겠습니다. 명대사와 스타일리쉬한 이미지가 가득한 이 영화는 김지운 감독이 만든 한국형 느와르 영화입니다.

감독 특유의 인장이 영화 곳곳에 깊숙히 박혀 있습니다. 감각적인 연출과 영상미, 깊이 있는 대사들, 은유와 암시, 그리고 느와르풍의 미장센은 관객으로 하여금 영화의 매력에 빠져들게 합니다.

이병헌이 흔들리는 선우를 연기했습니다. 그리고 원로 배우 김영철이 보스역을 맡아 카리스마 넘치는 연기를 보여주었습니다. 신민아가 보스의 애인역을 맡아 열연했고 김뢰하, 이기영등 화려한 조명 배우들이 등장합니다.

영화에 등장하는 대사들이 한때 전국에 유행을 할 정도로 대중들에게 큰 인기를 끌었던 영화입니다. 우수에 젖은 이병헌의 명연기가 뇌리에서 잊혀지지가 않습니다.

어느 깊은 가을밤, 잠에서 깨어난 제자가 울고 있었다. 그 모습을 본 스승이 기이하게 여겨 제자에게 물었다.

"무서운 꿈을 꾸었느냐?" "아닙니다."

"슬픈 꿈을 꾸었느냐?" "아닙니다. 달콤한 꿈을 꾸었습니다."

"그런데 왜 그리 슬피 우느냐?"

제자는 흐르는 눈물을 닦아내며 나지막히 말했다.

" 그 꿈은 이루어 질 수 없기 때문입니다."

선우는 왜 흔들렸을까요. 선우는 어떤 꿈을 꾸었던 걸까요.
