프라하의 봄, 1968년 체코 프라하에서 일어난 자유 민주화 운동을 말합니다. 구 쏘련을 추종했던 독재 정부를 내몰고 자유를 외치는 체코 국민들에 의해 일어난 자유 민주화 운동은 이후 체코 사회에 많은 영향을 미치게 됩니다.

바람둥이 의사 토마스, 그를 가장 잘 이해하는 사비나, 그리고 토마스의 영혼을 붙잡은 유일한 여자 테레사. 격변하는 체코의 정치적 상황속에서 그 시대를 살았던 세 사람의 사랑 이야기를 담은 영화는 명장 필립 카우프만의 필름속에서 스낵사진처럼 그 시대를 오롯이 담아내게 됩니다.

마치 중세 유럽의 연극 소품을 보는 것처럼 영화의 미장센은 고전적이고 빈티지합니다. 체코의 정치적 혼란은 모호한 필름의 톤으로 변형되고 청춘들의 애절한 사랑은 시대를 덧칠하는 강렬한 색이 됩니다.

체코 출신의 대문호, 밀란 쿤데라. 그의 소설 '참을 수 없는 존재의 가벼움'을 토대로 만든 영화입니다. 소설은 서양 사상과 철학, 그리고 종교에 대한 이해가 없으면 읽기가 무척 힘들 정도로 난해합니다. 하지만 감독은 복잡하고 심오한 철학이 담긴 원작을 세 남녀의 사랑 이야기로 치환시키며 영화적인 문법으로 원작을 해석하게 됩니다.

프라하의 봄이 발생했던 시절 청춘을 보냈던 밀란 쿤데라의 자전적인 이야기가 오롯이 담겨 있습니다. 원작은 체코어로 쓰여져 있고, 대중에게 익숙한 제목, '참을 수 없는 존재의 가벼움'은 체코어로 쓰여진 작품을 영어로 번역한 작품의 제목입니다.

다니엘 데니 루이스, 레나 올린, 줄리엣 비노쉬. 세 명의 명배우는 영화의 깊이와 품격을 높여주는 최고의 캐스팅이라고 생각합니다. 체코의 진정한 독립과 자유를 상징하는 세 사람은 어찌 보면 가벼워 보이는 연기를 통해 깊고 넓은 체코의 자유 정신을 영화의 중심에 수놓고 있습니다.

수려한 미장센과 가슴 깊이 새겨지는 음악, 그리고 천천히 내면으로 스며드는 이미지들. 영화는 프라하의 봄이 일어나던 체코의 시대적 상황을 처절하리만큼 아름답게 표현하고 있습니다.

국내에서는 '프라하의 봄'이라는 제목으로 개봉되었습니다. 영화에 삽입된 OST곡과 영화의 예고편을 같이 올립니다.
