어려서부터 피아노를 연주하기 시작했습니다. 음악가 집안에서 태어났기 때문에 음악은 어린 Roberta Flack에게는 공기와 같은 것이었습니다. 10대가 되서부터는 리듬 앤 블루스에서 클래식에 이르기까지 모든 장르의 음악을 섭렵하며 자라게 됩니다.

1968년 아틀란틱 레코드사와 계약을 맺고 이듬해인 1969년 'First Take'라는 데뷔 앨범을 내게 됩니다. 이후 1972년 미국 차트 1위에 오르며 자신의 이름을 알리게 되는데요.

Killing Me Softly With His Song, 로베타 플락은 이 곡을 통해 자신의 음악적인 입지를 공고히 하게 됩니다. 기존의 소울 음악과는 다른 클래식과 재즈의 운율을 더해 대중음악에 클래식을 융합시킨 자신만의 음악세계를 만들어 내게 됩니다.

국내 오디션 프로그램에서 지원자들이 자주 부르는 곡중에 하나입니다. 그만큼 음악적으로 자신의 실력을 평가받을 수 있는 몇 안되는 레퍼런스 곡입니다.
