Wembley Edwards, Leon Pober. 하와이의 라디오 진행자인 두 사람은 하와이의 옛 노래 Pupu A O Ewa를 영어 가사로 번안해서 노래를 부르게 됩니다.

원곡은 1900년대 초에 진주만에 도크를 건설하는 현장에서 사망 사건이 발생하게 된 일을 기리는 노래라고 합니다. 그곳에서 상어의 무덤이 발견되었다고 하는군요.

이 곡은 이후에도 많은 가수들에 의해 불리워졌습니다. 하와이 가수 돈호, 미국 가수 벌 아이브스 등이 다시 불렀으며 국내에서는 박재란, 정시스터즈, 화니 시스터즈 등이 번안해서 불렀습니다.
