마음이 닫혀버린 천재에 대한 이야기입니다. 자신의 가치를 모르는 우리들에 대한 이야기입니다. 그리고 자아를 찾아가는 성장 이야기입니다.

상처는 윌의 가장 절친한 친구입니다. 하지만 친하기에 너무 허물이 없습니다. 바닥까지 모든 것을 보여주는 덕에 윌의 주변은 늘 거칠은 싸움과 욕설뿐입니다.

하지만 윌은 다른 사람이 없는 많은 재주를 지녔습니다. 너무나 똑똑한 머리를 자신에 대한 자학과 세상에 대한 미움으로 자신을 방어하고 타인을 공격하는데에만 씁니다.

밑바닥 인생을 전전하며 하루하루를 그저 그렇게 보내는 윌. 어느 날 그의 천재성을 알아본 교수를 만나게 됩니다. 그리고 교수는 그의 천재성을 불러내고자 마음을 치유하기 시작하는데요.

상처는 반항을 만들고 스스로를 보호하게 만듭니다. 억지와 고집은 어쩌면 자신을 사랑하지 못하는 마음의 병일 겁니다. 그리고 스스로를 사랑하지 못하는 마음은 타인에 대한 증오로 나타나게 됩니다.

세상 누구도 알아봐 주지 않았습니다. 물어보지도 않았습니다. 그리고 말하지도 않았습니다. 고아인 윌에게는 자신을 위해 싸워주는 친구들만이 세상에서 가장 소중한 존재입니다.

내 잘못이 아니야, 숀 교수는 윌에게 말합니다. 그리고 닫힌 마음에 따듯한 사랑의 온기를 불어넣어 줍니다. 윌이 처음으로 세상에 대해 마음을 여는 순간, 천재는 비로소 자신의 존재를 사랑하기 시작합니다.
