라디오에서 드라마에서 광고 음악에서 정말 많이 나왔던 음악입니다. 노래를 부른 Spandau Ballet는 잘 몰라도 이 곡 True의 후렴구를 잘 모르는 사람은 거의 없을 정도로 전세계적으로 인기를 얻었던 곡입니다.
1983년에 나온 싱글입니다. 게리 켐프와 마틴 켐프 형제를 중심으로 토니 헤들리, 스트브 노먼, 존 키블 이렇게 5명의 모여 1979년에 탄생한 밴드 Spandau Ballet의 곡입니다.
80년대에 유행했던 뉴웨이브 사운드를 표방했던 밴드로 아름다운 외모와 화려한 의상으로 깔끔한 무대 매너를 통해 대중에게 어필했던 전설적인 밴드입니다.
이 곡 True는 발표 당시 영국 차트 1위를 차지하며 차츰 영국을 넘어 세계적인 인기를 끌기 시작합니다. 이후 발표하는 곡마다 빌보드 싱글차트 순위권에 들어가게 되면서 전세계적인 밴드로 부상하게 됩니다.
곡의 생명력은 아직까지도 유효합니다. 성탄이 되면 들려오는 캐롤송처럼 대중들의 기억속에서 잊혀지지 않고 꾸준히 사랑을 받고 있습니다. 공식 영상과 라이브 영상을 같이 올립니다.
