Bette Davis, 1930대부터 1950년대까지 헐리우드에서 주가를 올렸던 여배우입니다. 그런데 그녀는 눈이 무척 크고 금발을 하고 있습니다. 노래는 그녀의 이런 매력적인 모습을 담고 있습니다.
Kim Carnes, 헐리우드 태생의 싱어송 라이터입니다. 어려서부터 음악적인 재능이 뛰어났던 킴은 성인이 되어서는 작곡가로 활동을 시작하게 됩니다. 그러던 중 Bell Record사에 발탁이 되는 행운을 잡게 됩니다.
이후 몇 번의 실패를 거듭했지만 결국 자신만의 입지를 만들어가게 되는데요. 특히나 'Love comes unexpected place'라는 곡으로 동경가요제에서 우승을 차지하게 됩니다.
이후 EMI로 이적한 후에는 여러 곡들을 히트시키게 되고 'Bette Davis Eyes'로 빌보드 차트 9주간 정상을 차지하며 그해 그래미 시상식 최우수 레코드 상과 최우수 작사, 작곡상을 수상하게 됩니다.
Female Rod Stewart라는 애칭을 지닐 정도로 킴의 쉰듯한 굵고 허스키한 목소리는 그녀만의 보컬이 지닌 독특한 개성을 잘 드러내 주고 있습니다.
영화 Mist에 삽입되어 기네스 펠트로가 노래를 불렀으며, 다른 여러 유명 가수들에 의해 다시 재해석 되어 불리어졌습니다.
Kim Carnes가 직접 노래를 부르는 영상과 아르헨티나 출신의 재즈 보컬리스트인 Karen Souza가 부르는 영상을 같이 올립니다.
