생전에 자신의 팬들에 대한 사랑이 지극했던 조 칵커는 위의 글처럼 온 마음과 정신으로 노래를 불렀습니다. 굵직한 목소리에서 흘러 나오는 소울풀 강한 블루지한 음색은 사람을 끌어당기는 마력이 있습니다.

백인 음악가들의 리듬 앤 블루스와 소울 음악을 지칭하는 블루 아이드 소울의 대가였던 조 칵커는 영국에서 출생했으며 영화 '사관과 신사'의 OST를 불러 1983년 그래미 상을 수상하게 됩니다.

대영 제국 훈장을 수여받을 정도로 국가에서도 인정을 했던 음악인입니다. 2014년 70세의 나이로 세상을 떠나기 전까지 그가 남긴 음악적인 업적은 아직도 많은 이들에게 큰 울림을 주고 있습니다.

Unchained My Heart는 1974년 소울 음악의 대부, 레이찰스가 부른 곡이 원곡입니다. 조 칵커는 이 곡은 80년대 자기에 맞게 재해석해 부르게 되며 큰 히트를 치게 됩니다.
