공주는 아무런 잘못을 하지 않았습니다. 그런데 자꾸만 피하게 됩니다. 잘못도 하지 않은 자신을 세상이 용서하지 않기 때문입니다.

실제 사건을 영화화한 작품입니다. 우리 사회의 사회적 편견과 오만에 대한 자화상입니다. 옳고 그름에 대한 딜레마를 정면으로 다루었습니다.

영화는 여고생인 한공주의 시선을 따라 갑니다. 전학을 했고 새로운 친구를 사귀었으며 이제 조금씩 마음을 열어 가는 중입니다. 그리고 좋아하는 음악도 마음껏 할 수 있습니다.

그런데 문제가 생겼습니다. 친구중에 하나가 자신이 노래를 부르는 장면을 인터넷에 올린 것입니다. 공주는 무섭습니다. 세상에 자신의 존재가 알려지는 것이 싫습니다.

세상은 옳고 그름을 이야기하지 않습니다. 다만 자기에게 득이 되느냐 아니냐만 중요합니다. 그래서 공주는 잘못을 하지 않았는데도 잘못을 한게 되어 버렸습니다. 공주는 그 사실이 너무나도 억울하고 마음이 아픕니다.

시대의 윤리와 도덕, 가족의 해체, 무너진 상식, 그리고 부조리. 공주는 시대의 무기력함과 모순을 대변하는 영화적인 상징입니다.

영화는 아무 것도 요구하지 않습니다. 그리고 따져서 묻지도 않습니다. 다만 공주의 시선을 따라가며 세상이 힘없고 나약한 사람들을 어떻게 대하는지를 보여줄 뿐입니다.

너무나 먹먹합니다. 그리고 너무나 아름답습니다. 중간 중간 감독이 심어놓은 정물화같은 이미지는 보는 이로 하여금 가슴을 떨리게 합니다. 비애와 우울로 가득한 이미지는 어쩌면 이 시대의 부조리를 표현하고픈 감독의 심정인지도 모르겠습니다.

이제는 대스타가 된 천우희가 한공주를 열연했습니다. 앳되고 여린 여고생은 왜 그토록 세상과 동떨어져 숨어지내고 싶었을까요.
