In June 1995, we rented another house, still in Richmond, British Columbia

So that Gaëlle could walk to school, she changed to another elementary school that was closer to our new address. While Roseline, Betty and Syrille stayed in the same secondary schools.

At the end of her grade 11 year, Roseline ESL teacher told her that she should take the course "English 10" during summer school. This way, she could take "English 11" during her Grade 12 year, and take "English 12" during her first year of university.

However, in Richmond, during summer 1995, there was no English 10 course during summer school in the Richmond school district. Roseline should have to go to Vancouver for a course given by the Vancouver school board, but it was complicated and it would have taken her a long time to go to Vancouver every week day for 9 weeks.

There was an "English 11" course in Richmond during this summer. So that Roseline could take this course, her ESL teacher had to write a letter indicating that she was confident that Roseline's level of English would allow her to take the course. The letter was written, and Roseline registered to take "English 11" during summer 1995.

So, for 9 weeks, she spent 4 hours every day at a school, and more hours studying and doing home work at home. I remember that she learned about Shakespeare plays during this summer. She was very courageous to take this course only one year after arriving in Canada, not being fluent in English. And she passed the course without a problem.

So, when she started Grade 12 in September 1995, she was no longer in ESL and was able to take English 12. I remember that she told me that her English teacher discovered only in December that she was francophone and had became fluent in English less than a year before.

Wow, it's really nice the way you made things easy for your children. Changing home so that gaëlle Would be able to walk to school was a good option and I know it was for her safety right.
Roseline must to be an intelligent child for it's not allow her mates could accumulate so fast as she did.
