The Classics Never Die - Elvis Presley The KingsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #music6 years ago

Gee it has been a long time since my last post in the series The Classics, and I'm sorry about that but I have been busy sorting thing out and getting ready to move house. It has chewed up much of my time and I'm on top of everything for now.
All I need to do is get my electricity, water and internet connected and pack some of the things I use everyday.
In the next two weeks will be the big move, which is about an 80km trip to my new house. Once this is out the way I will have more time on my hands for my music posts, and things can return to normal finally.

After listening to the Saturday night jukebox for a while last night I thought gee I should really do a post today, I was going to do one last night but was still feeling exhausted.
On Thursday it was a stinker here in Adelaide, 40 degrees Celsius. I had to do some running around in the heat and then out to my mortgage broken and then back home. I stupidly wore my motorbike jacket in the heat and by the time I got home I had pretty bad heat stroke. So have been feeling pretty bad most of the weekend, no matter how much water and other fluids I drink I still don't feel hydrated, but feel much better today.

So anyway I really can't do a series about the classics and not include The King.
I think everyone knows Elvis, how can you not and the whole aim of this series is to introduce people to artists who aren't as well known.
There are some really great artists who I fear will be forgotten over time, and Elvis sure doesn't fall into this category but how can I not include him in the Classics.
The classics would have to be the most listened to in my music rotation, and as time goes on I find myself craving them more and more. During my work week at least 60% of the week I listen to the classics, they are such a great way to churn through the working week and sure make the day fly by.
Some mornings I perhaps don't feel like going to work, I'm tired and didn't sleep well the night before but because I know when I get to work I will get to listen to the classics it's amazing how much my mood will lift.

The classics never die, but they can be forgotten and sometimes your introduced to something you absolutely love.
I have had some interesting feed back in this series.
Here is some feedback I received from @mightpossibly

That's some nice songs!
I've never listened to a single David Bowie song before - these were some solid recommendations.

I have also received lots of great feed back, and interesting trivia from @mgood who is very knowledgeable on the classics I love.

The group, Dr Hook and the Medicine Show, wasn't very well known but they came out with a few hits.
I'm surprised they play their songs "down under".

Here is some feed back from @cheese4ead about my Pink Floyd post.

You know you won my vote at P!! 😂
Meddle was my choice for my most influential album in my challenge but Wish You Were Here is my favourite closely followed by Dark side of the moon.
The Wall freaks me out and Roger Waters lyrics are a little depressing. I still think its special though and I remember being transfixed on the artwork too. Comfortably Numb is technically an 80's track too!! Run Like Hell is a cool live track.
Awesome. Thanks @thevillan

So lets continue on with my series, I want to share another couple of my favorite tracks.

☠️ Elvis Presley - The King ☠️

I think Elvis Presley would have to be one of the most famous artists, his music is enjoyed by people all over the world.
Elvis was an American singer born in 1935, and sure lived up to his nickname as the "King of Rock and Roll".
From Wikipedia:

Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family when he was 13 years old. His music career began there in 1954, recording at Sun Records with producer Sam Phillips, who wanted to bring the sound of African-American music to a wider audience. Accompanied by guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, Presley was a pioneer of rockabilly, an uptempo, backbeat-driven fusion of country music and rhythm and blues.

It's sad that drug use took this great musician, and you can't help but wonder what other great tracks never got recorded as a result of the drugs.
Elvis died at a relatively young age, but for many years before he passed on I'm sure he could have produced more great hits if it weren't for the drugs.
Elvis has way too many great tracks for me to list in this post, so check him out.

☠️ Suspicious Minds ☠️

This is my favorite track by Elvis Presley.
I really love the rhythm and melody that has been used for the track, which combines with that magnificent voice of Elvis to produce one of the greatest harmonies.
The thing I love most about this track though is the lyrics, which weren't written by Elvis. This track is a regular on the radio station I listen to here in Adelaide.

We're caught in a trap
I can't walk out
Because I love you too much, baby
Why can't you see
What you're doing to me
When you don't believe a word I say?

☠️ Can't Help Falling in Love ☠️

Here is another one of those absolute classics that Elvis is so well known for.
Over 134 million views really goes to show just how popular this track is. I really love the slow pace that this track has and the voice of Elvis is just remarkable.
The harmony that this track has is almost unbelievable, it's almost hard to believe something can sound so good.
I really love the first four bars of this track, the lyrics are so good.

Wise men say
Only fools rush in
But I can't help
Falling in love with you

☠️ Kentucky Rain ☠️

I really love this track from Elvis too, it reminds me of the country and walking from a friends place in the rain.
I love the way the track has been composed, more like a story than a song.
The way the chorus breaks in, which has a rather unique and remarkable sound to it.
The lyrics are rather cold and lonely, which is why I love this track so much.

So I'm walking in the rain
Thumbing for a ride
On this lonely Kentucky back road
I've loved you much too long
My love's too strong
To let you go, never knowing
What went wrong

I have added these tracks into Villans Saturday Night jukebox Mix for you all :)
