The Classics Never Die - Tom Jones

in #music6 years ago

It's odd how different people react to music.
When it comes to older music I'm naturally drawn into it. It's hard to describe exactly why I love it so much, there are so many reasons as to why I may prefer it over newer music.
I personally think it's down to events in my life, so when I go back to my childhood that time in my life was actually a pretty good time. I was always a happy kid high on life. I was surrounded by the classics growing up and so it's easy to associate that feeling of pleasure and being happy with the classics.
When I listen to them they take me back to that time in my life when things were good. I didn't have any serious injuries like I have now from my accident, my mindset was much better and I didn't have PTSD or depression lingering which I had to over come each day.

Because my childhood will always be the best time of my life I'm drawn back there subconsciously, until I actually stopped to think about it I never realised this was the case. I just listened to the classics with great pleasure without fully understanding why I was so drawn to them.
Some of the best times of my life were when I had just turned a teenager. I used to chuck on the Saturday night jukebox every Saturday unless I was staying at a friends house. Now when I chuck on the Saturday night jukebox those good feeling come flooding back.

Sometimes I think this is also the reason why I don't seem to enjoy music which came out after about 2005, as this was around the time of my accident so because generally life was shit house after my accident. So when a song comes out I instantly get a negative association with it.
What I find surprising is that this only ever happens with new pop music, hits that appear on our TV screens on a Saturday morning.
When it comes to other genres of music like Dark Country or Epic Music I really don't get the same effect. I can chuck on some Epic Music and fall in love with a track instantly.
Again though I grew up influenced by the biker lifestyle, so maybe that's why Dark Country music grows on me instantly. With Epic Music it has a lot of similarity with classical music, and growing up as a kid I listened to the classical music radio station and also enjoyed classical music from cartoons, movies and TV shows.

The classics never die, but they can be forgotten and sometimes your introduced to something you absolutely love.
I have had some interesting feed back in this series.
Here is some feedback I received from @mightpossibly

That's some nice songs!
I've never listened to a single David Bowie song before - these were some solid recommendations.

I have also received lots of great feed back, and interesting trivia from @mgood who is very knowledgeable on the classics I love.

The group, Dr Hook and the Medicine Show, wasn't very well known but they came out with a few hits.
I'm surprised they play their songs "down under".

Here is some feed back from @cheese4ead about my Pink Floyd post.

You know you won my vote at P!! 😂
Meddle was my choice for my most influential album in my challenge but Wish You Were Here is my favourite closely followed by Dark side of the moon.
The Wall freaks me out and Roger Waters lyrics are a little depressing. I still think its special though and I remember being transfixed on the artwork too. Comfortably Numb is technically an 80's track too!! Run Like Hell is a cool live track.
Awesome. Thanks @thevillan

So lets continue on with my series, I want to share another couple of my favorite tracks.

☠️ Tom Jones ☠️

I'm not the hugest fan of the music from tom Jones, but there are a few tracks which I do enjoy.
Tom Jones is a singer from South Wales who has had a rather large musical career, spanning many decades.
He has spread his influence far and wide, and I'm sure everyone at least known about Tom Jones.
Tom Jones is another musician who was knighted by The Queen for his influence on the music industry.
From Wikipedia:

His performing range has included pop, R&B, show tunes, country, dance, soul and gospel. In 2008, the New York Times called Jones a musical "shape shifter", who could "slide from soulful rasp to pop croon, with a voice as husky as it was pretty". Jones has sold over 100 million records with thirty-six Top 40 hits in the United Kingdom and nineteen in the United States

☠️ She's a Lady ☠️

This is my favorite song from Tom Jones and one of my favorite songs of all time.
This track is usually a regular on the Saturday night jukebox too.
I think the song has a real funky rhythm to it, which is really catchy and draws me in every time.
I really love these lyrics, amazing.

Well, she knows what I'm about
She can take what I dish out, and that's not easy
But she knows me through and through
And she knows just what to do and how to please me

☠️ Green Green Grass of Home ☠️

Here is another song from Tom Jones that I really love.
I think we can all relate to a song like this, as there is no place like home. This song reminds me of my life and how eventually I came back home after I had my accident.
I love the slower pace of this track which reminds me of country life.
Such a good track.

☠️ It's Not Unusual ☠️

Here is another track which I really enjoy.
For some reason this track reminds me of Las Vegas, The jazzy feel to it feels like your sitting in a Las Vegas hotel having a whiskey and watching Tom and the jazz band perform.
I love that jazzy and fast paced feel the track has.

I have added these tracks into Villans Saturday Night jukebox Mix for you all :)
