The Classics Never Die - The Kinks

in #music6 years ago

If people were to ask me which musical eras I like, I would reply well all. From the inception of music we have been graced with many talented musical artists.
My musical taste is a very broad repertoire, I really get into just about everything and I guess this is one of the reasons why I never get sick of music. Despite the fact I listen to it pretty much all the time.

Of all the musical eras my favorite would have to be the 1960's, it's really tough to pick a favorite era as each era has produced some very talented artist.
However I think the 1960's was the biggest era for music. There was a real explosion of talented artists that came out of the 1960's but maybe this was also in correlation to the explosion of the population within the human race.
The 1960's was heavily motivated by war and psychedelics so the influence of love and peace is very strong throughout this era, spurred on by the Vietnam war.

The 1960's also saw an explosion in human rights movements, perhaps fueled by the Vietnam war and people beginning to realize that their combined voices are a powerful tool for change.
With movements like the anti-war movement, the civil rights movement, the gay right movement among others the 1960's was a very powerful and influential era.

These movements really helped to define the music that was produced, and it's amazing to be able to experience what the 1960's must have been like through music.
One of my favorite records to listen to was the tour of duty records my dad had. These records were jam packed full of music from this great era.

The classics never die, but they can be forgotten and sometimes your introduced to something you absolutely love.
I have had some interesting feed back in this series.
Here is some feedback I received from @mightpossibly

That's some nice songs!
I've never listened to a single David Bowie song before - these were some solid recommendations.

I have also received lots of great feed back, and interesting trivia from @mgood who is very knowledgeable on the classics I love.

The group, Dr Hook and the Medicine Show, wasn't very well known but they came out with a few hits.
I'm surprised they play their songs "down under".

Here is some feed back from @cheese4ead about my Pink Floyd post.

You know you won my vote at P!! 😂
Meddle was my choice for my most influential album in my challenge but Wish You Were Here is my favourite closely followed by Dark side of the moon.
The Wall freaks me out and Roger Waters lyrics are a little depressing. I still think its special though and I remember being transfixed on the artwork too. Comfortably Numb is technically an 80's track too!! Run Like Hell is a cool live track.
Awesome. Thanks @thevillan

So lets continue on with my series, I want to share another couple of my favorite tracks.

☠️ The Kinks ☠️

The Kinks were one of the multitude of fantastic groups to come out of the 1960's and have long been one of my favorite groups.
The Kinks are a English rock group from north London. They are most well known for their song You Really Got Me which I think everyone would know as it became an international hit.
Me and my friend used to love chucking on their record back when we were only very young teens, and dancing around like mad men with our air guitars.
The group was formed by the brothers Ray Davies and Dave Davies, which included two other members Mick Avory and Nicky Hopkins.
However like with most bands the lineup for the band has chopped and changed over the years as members leave and new members join The Kinks.

From Wikipedia:

Their music was influenced by a wide range of genres, including rhythm and blues, British music hall, folk and country. They gained a reputation for reflecting English culture and lifestyle, fueled by Ray Davies' observational writing style, and are considered one of the most influential groups of the period.

☠️ Lola ☠️

This would easily have to be my favorite track by The Kinks.
I really love the rhythm of the track and the way it has been sung sounds so good, I think it's really quite unique.
The lyrics to this track are really good and rather interesting, you really can't help but think that maybe this actually happened to him as a young kid.
I love songs like this as when your a young kid you really have no idea what making love will be like, so there are lots of unknowns around the matter.

☠️ All Day And All Of The Night ☠️

I really love this track by The Kinks.
When I was a kid their track You Really Got Me was my favorite track until I discovered some of theirs other tracks like this one.
I really love the rhythm the track has and the use of the electric guitar sounds really wild. It sounds like the guitar is singing with them :)

The way this track has been sung in combination with those lyrics is what really draws me into this track.
The lyrics are so catchy and really produces an excellent harmony the way it has been performed.

☠️ Sunny Afternoon ☠️

I really am surprised by the amount of views this track has had, because I think it's one of their best songs.
I find the track has kind of a depressing feel to it, which is one of the reasons I can relate to it so much.
This song reminds me that although things may get you down in life, you really need to learn to step back from it and appreciate the things which are good like enjoying a walk on a sunny day.

I love the lyrics that have been used in this track.
I think the rhythm of the track sounds really good, it has that real 60's feel to it.

☠️ Waterloo Sunset ☠️

Here is another fantastic song by The Kinks.
Another great track with a real 60's feel to it.
I find this track also has kind of a depressing feel to it, which really draws me in. I love the way the track has been sung.

I think the rhythm of the track is really soothing and so pleasant to listen too, you really can't help but wonder about what waterloo is. I think they are talking about a place.

I have added these tracks into Villans Saturday Night jukebox Mix for you all :)

Great group. Their song All Day and Alll of the Night was used for the opening theme of the movie"Pirate Radio" also called "The Boat That Rocked". I mentioned this movie to you a number of months ago. I hope u have had the chance to watch it. A lot of fun with great classic rock.
