The Classics Never Die - The Ronettes

in #music6 years ago

I spoke about this last week I think but it's amazing how little respect many girl groups get from the guys these days.
When it comes to the classics some of my most favorite groups are actually girl groups. They really had a great sound which you just don't get in today's new age music.
I think the thing that puts me off most about girl groups these days is they are heavily focused on sexualizing themselves, I think Lady Gaga is a shocker for this.
I don't know maybe it's just me but I find it off putting.

Another thing I have noticed when listening to new age music as opposed to the classics is the transition of content. Music these days have a lot of swearing and drug references in them which has risen greatly compared to the 60's and 70's.
There has also been a large spike in talk about murder and robbery etc. Which can be attributed in large part to hip hop rap music.
It's no wonder why society is in shambles.

Drugs are a huge problem but the situation is really not helped when people listen to gangsta rap. this is how people get murdered over a fitty sack. I have seen it first hand with friends who took their gangsta rap a little too seriously.
I used to love gangsta rap in my teens, but I also used to love my classics too so I think I had a healthy balance. I still love to chuck on some gangsta rap now and then, usually when I'm in the gym and need some motivation and aggression to get through my sets.

The classics never die, but they can be forgotten and sometimes your introduced to something you absolutely love.
I have had some interesting feed back in this series.
Here is some feedback I received from @mightpossibly

That's some nice songs!
I've never listened to a single David Bowie song before - these were some solid recommendations.

I have also received lots of great feed back, and interesting trivia from @mgood who is very knowledgeable on the classics I love.

The group, Dr Hook and the Medicine Show, wasn't very well known but they came out with a few hits.
I'm surprised they play their songs "down under".

Here is some feed back from @cheese4ead about my Pink Floyd post.

You know you won my vote at P!! 😂
Meddle was my choice for my most influential album in my challenge but Wish You Were Here is my favourite closely followed by Dark side of the moon.
The Wall freaks me out and Roger Waters lyrics are a little depressing. I still think its special though and I remember being transfixed on the artwork too. Comfortably Numb is technically an 80's track too!! Run Like Hell is a cool live track.
Awesome. Thanks @thevillan

So lets continue on with my series, I want to share another couple of my favorite tracks.

☠️ The Ronettes ☠️

The Ronettes are one of those girl groups which I do enjoy listening to. They had a really great sound to them.
The Ronettes were an American group who came from New York.
The girls pretty much grew up singing from when they could first walk, so over many years they had moulded and sculpted their melody.
The Ronettes have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and also the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, along many Grammy Awards.

From wikipedia:

One of the most popular groups from the 1960s, they placed nine songs on the Billboard Hot 100, five of which became Top 40 hits. The trio from Spanish Harlem, New York, consisted of lead singer Veronica Bennett (later known as Ronnie Spector), her older sister Estelle Bennett, and their cousin Nedra Talley.

☠️ The Ronettes - Baby, I Love You ☠️

This is my favorite track of theirs, I think is has a great rhythm and harmony to it.
Lead singer Veronica has an outstanding voice and the way she sings in this track sounds so good.
I love that start to the track too, which is rather unique and almost sounds like the track should be finishing rather than beginning the way they have done it.

It's easy to see why this track was one of their biggest hits. I think the track has a kind of 50's feel to it which I love.

☠️ The Ronettes - Be My Baby ☠️

Here is another fantastic track from The Ronettes which I really love.
This track really reminds me of my youth, as it was one of the most popular songs they would play on the Saturday night jukebox. Still to this day it is pretty much guaranteed to be played every Saturday.
I love the rhythm and harmony that this track has.
Veronica's voice is just remarkable, I love it.

It's easy to see why girl groups like The Ronettes were so popular amongst men. What man wouldn't want to hear this from a woman.

☠️ The Ronettes - Do I Love You ☠️

Here is another track I love from The Ronettes.
I think this track has a great melody and is full of soul.
This song is a remake of the original song by Cole Porter and has been redone by a number of artists.
I like this version because Veronica had such a great voice.

This song has some really great lyrics.

And do I need you every minute of the day
And would I die if you should ever go away
And does it mean so much to feel your tender touch
Do I love you

I have added these tracks into Villans Saturday Night jukebox Mix for you all :)

I'm loving them Ronettes!

However, I would like to say that you probly shouldn't say gansta rap is making folks bad. I think there are so many different variables there.

I understand the less murdering and robbing the better. But I don't think the cause is gangsta rap.

Keep it up man. I love seeing your random posts every night. :)
