The Classics Never Die - One Hit Wonders Rupert Holmes and Norman Greenbaum
The classics will always be a part of me.
Growing up as a kid it was always playing so the classics were part of my earliest memories as a kid.
When your a kid this is the time of your life when you feel your best normally. As a kid your body is at it's most healthiest and you don't have the aches and pains you get as you get older.
I think this is one of the reasons why I love listening to the classics so much. It's like a blast of nostalgia which makes me feel better.
I think being a kid would have to be the best part of your life, you don't have the worries like you get with adult life. So life can be so much more enjoyable and you will make life enjoyable by amusing yourself with the small things.
I used to love sitting in the lounge room going through all mum and dad's old records, some of them had some really cool artwork.
I would listen to these records over and over again.
I was never the type of kid to listen to the "music which was considered hip" unless it was on the radio, and I never owned and of my own music until I was old enough to start working.
One of the first cd's I brought was The Doors. I always loved listening to The Doors but usually only got to listen to it when I stayed at my uncle Mark's house.
Growing up as a teenager I found that I had more in common with older people, so I was very mature for my age. I think this was in part due to my taste of music growing up.
The classics never die, but they can be forgotten and sometimes your introduced to something you absolutely love.
I have had some interesting feed back in this series.
Here is some feedback I received from @mightpossibly
That's some nice songs!
I've never listened to a single David Bowie song before - these were some solid recommendations.
I have also received lots of great feed back, and interesting trivia from @mgood who is very knowledgeable on the classics I love.
The group, Dr Hook and the Medicine Show, wasn't very well known but they came out with a few hits.
I'm surprised they play their songs "down under".
Here is some feed back from @cheese4ead about my Pink Floyd post.
You know you won my vote at P!! 😂
Meddle was my choice for my most influential album in my challenge but Wish You Were Here is my favourite closely followed by Dark side of the moon.
The Wall freaks me out and Roger Waters lyrics are a little depressing. I still think its special though and I remember being transfixed on the artwork too. Comfortably Numb is technically an 80's track too!! Run Like Hell is a cool live track.
Awesome. Thanks @thevillan
So lets continue on with my series, I want to share another couple of my favorite tracks.
☠️ Rupert Holmes ☠️
Rupert Holmes in my mind is very much a one hit wonder. I really don't get into any of his other music except for one song. I don't mind his song Answering machine but it's not something I will go out of my way to put on.
Rupert Holmes is a British/American singer and composer.
Rupert Holmes had an American father and an English mother, both of whom were in to music. Rupert in a way is a lot like Jeff Lynne from ELO, he composed music for Barbra Streisand.
Rupert Holmes has also written some musicals and been involved in a bunch of cabarets, which have been hits on the likes of Broadway.

Escape
Escape also known as "The Pina Colada Song" is a composition from Rupert Holmes that I absolutely love.
That rhythm is so good and really unique, it really does make you think of tropical islands and pina coladas. It also kind of reminds me of a 70's porn film the way that tune sounds lol.
Every time I hear this song I just burst of and sing, unless I'm at work otherwise people might think I'm wierd though I'm sure they already do.
These lyrics are so good though.
If you like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain
If you´re not into yoga, if you have half a brain
If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape
I´m the love that you´ve looked for, write to me, and escape
☠️ Norman Greenbaum ☠️
Norman Greenbaum is another one hit wonder, but that one hit was a beauty.
Norman Greenbaum is an American singer/songwriter who comes from Massachusetts.
From wikipedia:
Greenbaum was born in Malden, Massachusetts. He was raised in an Orthodox Jewish household and attended Hebrew school at Congregation Beth Israel. His initial interest in music was sparked by southern blues music and the folk music that was popular in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He performed with various bands in high school and studied music at Boston University for two years. In college he performed at local coffeehouses but eventually dropped out and moved to Los Angeles in 1965

Spirit in the Sky
I really love this song from Norman Greenbaum.
I think it's rather clever the way it has been done, talking about the spirit in the sky as this would appeal to most people.
I really love the rhythm this song has, it's so catchy you really can't help but bop along to it.
I think the mix of electric guitar alongside the spiritual lyrics are a really good combination
Although I'm an athiest and I don't believe there is a god, I really do love the lyrics to this song.
I have added these tracks into Villans Saturday Night jukebox Mix for you all :)

Spirit in the Sky is a very catchy tune. Love it.
Norman Greenbaum actually qualifies for 2 "One Hit Wonders" which sounds like an oxymoron but... he was leader of a group that had a hit before Spirit in the Sky. It was a novelty song that didn't chart very high but was a lot of fun. I have to laugh at this - here goes:
Haha never realized he did this song, it is catchy lol
Norman Greenbaum is looking down on you with distaste.
Because now he is the spirit in the sky....
And you don't believe in him.
