We decided to spend the next day in our room. Before embarking on a long journey, it did not hurt to put in order both the number itself and the diaries in which I entered the results of research of those plants, samples of which I collected purely for their own purposes, outside the activities carried out within the walls of the local laboratory. I have already collected a lot of interesting materials for earth science, many of which could change the views of scientists both on the evolution of our planet and on the scale of the Universe.
Arthur took it upon himself to help me, though his help only made it worse. In the end, I suggested that he take over the duties of preparing lunch and then dinner, the rest of the time he was just bored, sitting in a chair and drinking beer, then watching movies or local television programs.
When I was finally done, we had dinner and went for a walk around the base. Unfortunately, it was possible to go beyond it only with the permission of the base commander, so we just wandered aimlessly along the paths past the residential and industrial buildings, breathed fresh air and blithely chatted about this and that.
When we got home from our walk, we took a shower... make love. The next morning we woke up, oddly enough, cheerful, full of energy and in a good mood went to work.
On the same day Robert held a small conference in the laboratory, at which he announced the approved list of members of the expedition and introduced its leader – his Deputy named Flash, and, giving him the floor, left.
In the office where the meeting was held, there were only those laboratory staff who were part of the expedition, and a few people from other departments of the base, among whom, to my great joy, were my friends-Arthur, Peter, Lee, and even our commander, bill stone.
– How did you come to be among us?" I whispered to Arthur.
He also answered quietly:
– You remember what Robbie promised at the party to arrange for us to accompany you on your journey around the planet? As, of course, brute force and sovmestitelstvu to protect you from any misfortune. And he kept his promise, so you and I will be together.
Flash glared at us, but said nothing. He went to the Board on which hung a map with a route drawn on it, running through almost the entire territory of the planet, and began to tell us where and how we will move, how much time is planned for the study of each of the Islands, where we turn on the way. According to him, all the way to the village of aborigines should last at least a month, taking into account all stops and unforeseen circumstances.
– Approximately the same amount of time is planned to be used to get acquainted with the life, history and way of life of local residents, their traditions, myths and legends.
– It will take us much less time to get back – "continued the leader of the expedition," and we will do The main research on the way there. However, do not forget about all kinds of force majeure, which can make significant adjustments to our plans.
Flash paused, looked us over carefully, trying to see if we understood what he was saying. Apparently quite satisfied with what he saw, he continued:
– The Secretary will give you personal plans and schedules for the expedition." Before the end of the working week, we must have time to fully prepare for it. Before the weekend we will meet you again to check our readiness for such a long journey, the beginning of which coincides with the beginning of a new week. I have-all! Everyone, mind your own business!
After receiving the Secretary's "printout" of my assignment, I was a little depressed – I do not have to relax, that's for sure...
