  • Hang in there - I said to the victim, who writhed in severe pain. Before I inject you with a painkiller, I need to compare the performance of your blood test with data from medical records to identify the degree of damage by poison...

  • While you're out there to play games, he needs to suffer? Give him a shot! - there was a rude voice from the door of one of those who took the wounded to the office.

I turned in his direction and said sternly:

  • I can do without Your guidance, it is firstly, and secondly, step out of the room. You have no right to be here.

Boor wanted was something else to say, but apparently my strong views made him to change his mind, he silently walked out and quietly shut the door behind him.

I once again bent over the man lying on a table, quickly took from it blood and approached a microscope.

Outwardly, everything seemed usual. Some changes, of course, were observed, but they were so minor that they could be ignored.

But just in case I tried to contact Nick on the radio, however, I could not do that, so I decided to act at their own risk. Moreover, the victim could not stand the pain silently.

Among the drugs in the first aid kit, I found one that had no contraindications and side effects.

I injected the drug and sat next to the patient, holding his hand. After a few minutes, he relaxed, began to breathe and soon fell asleep.

I checked for a pulse and went to the table to make the appropriate journal entry.

At this time, earned radio: Nick made contact. I reported to him about the work done and asked how things are on farms.

Nick said that they had the night passed without much incident, except for the fact that one of the creatures managed to bite the cow. Introduced the antidote didn't help, apparently, in this case, it was needed to introduce a greater amount of the drug. It is not excluded that the drug, designed for the human body, was powerless for animals. But he took samples for further research and hoped to bring a new kind of antidote.

  • Besides, - said nick, - to the edge of the field managed to catch one of the attacking spiders. Took him alive, able to confuse his tentacles so that he can't even move. It'll be delivered to the ship by dawn, so we'll have a lot of work to do.

Having finished the conversation, I went to the table where the patient was lying. His cheeks noticeably flushed, he was breathing quietly and evenly, and I calmed down. It was possible to drink some tea and relax and bit but to try to find Arthur and talk to him.

I went out into the hall and saw a friend who was going to go back to security. He hugged me by the shoulders, gently kissed and said:

  • Don't worry about me, dear, everything will be fine. I promise you. I hope it will be over soon and we will be together again.

Having said this, he left with his comrades, and I, having brewed tea, returned to the clinic.

The rest of the night passed quietly. I even managed to take a little NAP on the cot, courtesy of the owner of the office.

As soon as it was dawn, we returned to the ship and immediately started to work.

This time the source material was enough, and soon we made another batch of antidote.

The caught "spider" was placed in a pre-prepared cell reflecting ultraviolet and electro-pulsed rays. The cage was put in the quarantine compartment, where there was also a baby who was born in this very compartment. Since the last time I saw him, he's grown a lot. Now housing for him were a large glass aquarium, covered with a metal cap, which was mounted an ingenious ventilation system.

He ate the same milk aphids, but how long it would last, was unknown to us. We didn't know what to feed an adult prisoner, but don't bother with this issue.

Only I was going to lie down and rest, as the General meeting of the whole team was announced. It was attended by all unit commanders and a representative of the colony administration.

  • Let us to decide, as we will act further? - the commander of the ship began the meeting. - At this point we hit a dead end. Despite the fact that an antidote has been found, we simply can not constantly be on this planet and help maintain the relative safety of local residents and colonists. Waiting for your suggestions.

Todd took the floor first. His proposal was to destroy the enemy's lair by detonating it with a bomb.

  • The only way we can ensure the safety of our people. - he said.

But Nick strongly disagreed with it, noting the fact that we do not know what the impact on the planet's ecosystem colonies of these creatures, and what can happen after their destruction.

  • We all know that wise nature does not create anything superfluous. We need to examine this population in more detail, to find out what impact it has on the life of the planet, and then to find ways of peaceful coexistence with all its inhabitants, including these. - he finished his speech.

  • Victoria, what do You think about this? - the commander of the ship addressed me.

  • I agree with Nick, we should study all the aspects of this phenomenon as thoroughly as possible and weigh all the arguments for and against. Moreover, judging by the observations, we are faced with something previously unknown to science.

  • That's just unlikely we will be able to conduct full-scale research directly on the planet, - I added, - most likely, we will have to return to Argan to continue the experiments.

  • You want to leave us alone with these monsters? Todd was outraged. - We had hoped on your help and protection...

  • Who said we'd leave you without protection? - asked his captain. - We will strengthen the security barrier around the village and farms, leave you with enough weapons and ammunition, provide you with an antidote and teach you how to cook it.

  • As soon as our scientists decide all questions connected with population of these individuals, the final decision on destiny of this planet will be made.

  • Besides, all who wish can return to Argan with us. The decision you must make for yourself. You have until tomorrow morning. We have the same amount of time to report to the management of space missions on the outcome of our meeting. In any case, we are required to return to the base.

  • Tomorrow morning I expect all units of the action plan on organization of work on preparation for flight and the defense of the villagers.

This meeting was over, and we went to our jobs.

To be continued...

Thank you for your attention, see you soon!
