Georgeann came out of her room to see what all the laughter was all about. Faro sat in front of his laptop with a hand-rolled smoke between his fingers mightily guffawing trying not to spill the coffee in the other hand.
“What's so funny?”
Faro could barely contain himself. “Look at this, Georgeann. The Albuquerque Journal.” He set down the coffee and turned the computer so his secretary could see it. “Mysterious Rash of Germans at Area Hospitals. HAHAHAHA! They actually did it! I thought it was hilarious when she first told us about it, but now they've actually gone and done it! My Lord!”
“Oh dear.” Georgeann couldn't contain herself either. She barely got out through the laughter, “Those poor people. I've had poison ivy, Giuseppe. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.” They laughed harder.
“And yet....” She made a pregnant hand gesture.
“Those rascals.”
They heaved and sighed thoughtfully for a while as Faro sat finishing his morning smoke and coffee.
“What's the world coming to when even ruthlessly meticulous Nazis start getting careless? Seems like this dumbing down is affecting everyone.”
“Don't I know it!”
“So, you have the the Shorleys all sorted out. I mean the Barstows.”
“Yes. They arrive tomorrow and we'll meet them at the airport. Then we'll start them on assuming ownership of their place under their new names. They'll just buy it from themselves, so to speak, using the trust Farkell set up for them,” she laughed. “It will help conceal the 'new' owners since they kept the same first names.”
“A shortcoming in their plan, for sure, but after you've been to school with, and then been married to the same person for years, how can you ever call them by a new name? I'll never get used to 'the Barstows' though.”
“You have to, Giuseppe. Their lives depend on it.”
“I know. I know. What's that paper you've got with you?”
“Something the Barstows sent me. They want you to look at it.”
“Well what is it?”
“Your finance guy sent it to Farkell to look at. You know he's not only a lawyer, but a competent coder from his time in computer games.”
“Well what is it already?” said Faro reaching for the papers as if to snatch them from Georgeann.
She pulled them to her chest playfully to taunt him. “It's a white paper. On something called...” She peeked at the document, “...Bitcoin.”
“Bitcoin? What on earth is that?” He finally pulled the document from her clutches and began to read.
He perused the now-famous Satoshi Nakamoto white paper for a spell and then looked up from it at Georgeann. “Ooooh. Babylon's banksters are going to shit bricks if this ever comes about. If this Satoshi Nakamoto is a real guy, I can't believe someone hasn't killed him yet. This could undo central banking and the evil brood that control it completely.”
“No high-octane speculation?”
“Looks like it has legs, but it's a few years away yet.”
