Hope - Day 55

Flickering flames licking logs
Following flows of rollicking riffs
Dwindling down to glowing embers
Slowly secreting comforting warmth
But in danger of dying without fresh fuel.

Family and friends gather round
Sharing silly stories and throwing in a stick or two
Stirring up sizzling sparks into the cold night air
Lighting up the darkness with laughter
As blinking bouts of flame return.

An aged widow looks longingly out her window
Remembering the joy of family fires
When a stranger taps at her door
Asks for marshmallows
And if she wants to join them.

-And a thankful tear sneaks down her cheek.

I wanted this poem to go on and on @firststeps. It was really like the sparks of a circular fire. The words you used had rhythm and things suddenly changed as we see things from the widow's point of view on the outside looking through her window. The barrier broken she was now included into the party.

Thank you for your life and faith. Thank you for the love and hope you show through these words.

Happy moments are the most treasured treasure in the twilight of life. When someone reminds them, we look at them with gratitude

a story that must be blue,
sometimes full of bitter writings we have to live, but life always gives the freshness and opportunities of the unexpected .. beautiful poetry @firststeps

I really love the sentiment of this poem. It also had a great flow. I liked how there was no punctuation, but I thought one final period at the end may have worked. Great piece. 😎

You really went all in with the alliteration on this one! The words effortlessly roll off each other, reflecting the ease of the campfire setting. I think it makes a great contrast with the final stanza where you start to drop them and just focus on that image of the old widow longing to be included.

Very nicely done, I can feel the warmth running throughout and it does take me back to some similar family gatherings :)

I usually add punctuation last, just forgot on this piece. Ill edit it now.
