Tula - Day 52

In loving memory of my beloved Tula.

So tiny, so precious still sipping at the teat,
But running like the wind when you hear your name.
Quickly diminishing the distance between us.
Body bouncing, ears flapping, tail wagging-
Undaunted by Ihe cold dark night of winter.

Little legs struggle to climb the steps
As I sweep you into my arms.
Your body shivers with excitement
As you shower me with a thousand puppy kisses.
It is love at first sight.

You wiggled into my empty nest
And turned it upside down.
No time to wallow in my tears.
A compelling reason to leave my bed
And shake off the dust collecting on my soul.

You broke through the sound of silence
That echoed through my halls.
Bringing sweet healing laughter
With all your darling antics,
And life affirming connection as I caressed your fur.

When we moved to the country
Your spirit truly soared.
Running through the fields all day
Chasing rabbit trails
With your half howl half bark expressing your delight.

Coming back exhausted,
Such contentment in your eyes,
As you curled up on my lap
And thanked me with a lick
As we both drifted off to a land of gentle dreams.

And even though your days were cut short
While chasing your dreams,
They were filled with love and joy.
And I will forever miss you
As you lay in peace beneath my bleeding heart.
