My Basement is Flooded - Day 43

Well, actually my basement is flooded and that is what inspired this poem.

Reach further! Dig deeper! Find the wherewithal!
But I’ve reached the bottom and my basement is flooded,
And I’m just standing here staring, glaring in unbelief.
Lost in the consciousness of weighty, weary, worrisome.
Overwhelmed with nothing left to give.

Slowly drowning in a foot of water
That seems to have nowhere to go
A concrete encasement that keeps it from permeating
Down and deeper into the crevices of earth
Where it’s sifted and shifted and gifted back to life

So much miscellany rafting and wafting about
Soaked, soused and sopped
Swollen, stretched, puffed and pompous
Laughing in your face!
Demoralizing and immobilizing your reach

So I climb back up the wooden stairs
And find the solace of an empty bed
