"Ice Drift" - More Old Poetry

I wrote a lot of poetry back during my undergrad days, but once I found that I enjoyed doing fiction more, I never picked it back up (despite filling a huge notebook with well-transcribed versions along with accompanying images). Since Steemit seems to have a thriving (and growing) poetry community, I thought I'd add a little fuel to that particular fire. I hope you enjoy :)

Fumbled like drunks crossing icy streets,
I couldn’t salt the earth
soon enough to keep
the bruises from coming anyway.
I fell, pants cold-sticking to thigh and ground,
near embarrassed at the stain left as reminder.
These feet, unsteady, slip-slid upon surface
an exercise in comedy,
arms out to break the tumble but feeling bones beneath
give, crack and crumble.

This heart doesn’t play well with logic
and I sometimes wish
that sentiment was flipped,
coin-tossed for each life moment
and falling into faith-based
safety nets of lace
and whispered promises
on leaves of orchids frosted over
from ice kisses in the sun.
I’ve fallen and hobbled
my way into safety,
Old Man Winter my only deterrent,
so melt this season quickly…
