"Untitled, 01.25.06" - More Old Poetry

I wrote a lot of poetry back during my undergrad days, but once I found that I enjoyed doing fiction more, I never picked it back up (despite filling a huge notebook with well-transcribed versions along with accompanying images). Since Steemit seems to have a thriving (and growing) poetry community, I thought I'd add a little fuel to that particular fire. I hope you enjoy :)

These streets have taught me
That I am on my own
No matter whose hand reaches out to me.
That I am the Creator of every
Action and Reaction
And every Consequence thereof.
That Love is forever fleeting
No matter how much you wish it weren’t
And that you sign your Name
To every Spoken Word
Though you wish you could
Burn the Contract as soon as
It’s been notarized.
That People aren’t always what they seem
And that
Situations turn us Protean,
Causing Reflections of
"What the fuck just happened?"
And
"I want a do over."
Step by step this brick lined Street
Has taught me more than
All the books I’ve searched through,
Looking for the Answers
That only come from
Mistakes made, Lessons learned
Picking up the Pieces
And moving the Fuck On.
